Are you guys in Texas prepared for Ike?

I hope you guys in Texas have a safe place to go with hurricane Ike bearing down and have found a safe place for your cars. We don't want to hear about any lost forum members or cars floating away. I imagine that for those of you with a small fleet of cars, this could be a problem if you live in or around Houston or especially on the gulf coast.

Let us know how you are fareing.

All the hotel rooms in San Antonio are booked for the weekend, and that is saying something....tourism is one of our top 3 industries here, so we have ALOT of them.
I am about to leave for work and I am not looking forward to the commutes today. With Katrina, we felt the surge of people on the roads. MUCH more traffic, and I expect this will be even more apparent.

Many of my relatives in Houston are refusing to leave...bad choice IMHO

Many that are leaving plan to do so today...another bad choice IMHO. The way Houston traffic is, waiting until today seems like it makes it highly likely that many will weather the storm in their cars!

Stay safe out there in east Texas!

I'm 55 miles east of the Dallas area, so no worries here.

What effect will Ike have on the Texas oil industry and the price of diesel fuel?

Whew!

I was offered a pastorate in Pasedena, TX three and a half years ago. That was right before Katrina and Rita. I was kinda glad it didn't work out. Very glad now!

I'm contemplating getting my motorcoach loaded up with clothing, water, and non-perishable food to head toward TX. I hope to rally my church folks to get involved. I am sure that the need will be tremendous!

I just came from outside. The wind is starting to kick up a little bit, but the storm is still some 200 miles offshore. Galveston Island is already being flooded by storm surge, and folks who aren't out of the mandatory evac areas yet are being told to go to Lufkin or Bryan/College Station since I-45 to Huntsville and I-10 to San Antonio still have some backup situations. Landfall is expected early tommorow morning, Houston should have hurricane force winds bearing down around 2 AM. It should clear out by that evening. If I have power, I'll keep everyone updated. I plan to park the 300D up on higher and sheltered ground in a little bit.

H-town, just get out of there. I've been to Houston may times. I do not recall seeing high ground, except for the taller overpasses.

At this point I'd rather have my 300d in a tall concrete parking garage rather than braving the traffic in hurricane winds.

I think 55 ft ASL is fine. It's when you're like 20 ft and below that's a prob. No sense in getting stuck on the freeway in Cat 2 winds.

Hang on to your hat and every thing else that's not nailed down. The hell with sitting on the insterstate, I did that in Florida for Opal and Erin. Just enfoy all that fresh air while it lasts cause by Sunday it is gonna be hot and sticky. Hopefully ypu will still have your electricity. We are already seeing 40 mph winds as far inland as New Braunfels, but that is just a good thunderstorm around here. God Speed to you H-Town and everyone else that has to ride the eye tonight.

We're hanging at the house on the west side of Houston. AMGs are in the garage under covers, and the diesel is safe and hidden in the Memorial City Mall parking garage. The trucks are sitting outside, but they're just trucks. Hope we get power back before Sunday night...
