Looks like we might have a solution ( 11:30 am )

I just heard that McCain is on his way to MS for the debate. If that is true, then there must be a solution to the financial crisis.

I do not understand why the dems have accused the repubs of holding up a solution. The dems have a controlling majority, and a President predisposed to sign their bailout bill. Why did they not simply pass it? They did not NEDD any repubs to get this done.
Something was fishy with that.

Maybe it has something to do with passing a bill that the President won't sign is a waste of time?

Even with a majority, you can't just ignore the other side.

As for McCain going, it's more likely he just git called on his bluff, and they don't need him there, so he left.

It was just a show. He's not even on any committee that has any influence in any decisions made.

They probably don't have all the Dems on side.

Seems the problems are solved as McCain has just state that he will go to the debate now. According to a press release, McCain feels both sides are close enough that his help is no longer needed.

Does anyone believe this line of BS? I think McCain just blinked.

Was he wearing a skin tight blue and red outfit with a bit "S" on the front of it and a cape?

That is true only if you believe that McCain has been acting in good faith.

It can be viewed as fishy. Or it can be seen as responsible, bipartisan government, depending on your point of view.

Just heard on TV that Dodd is trying to tie any pay-back to increased spending.

Great idea. Get us nearly a trillion bucks deeper in debt and as we get out of debt, put more debt on us.

Sounds like Dodd works for Fannie Mae.

That's not true. The Senate is split and AFAIK you need 60 votes to pass anything. There's opposition to this bail-out from both sides. Dems mostly complain it helps Wall Street but not Main Street. Conservatives are against more govt interference. Both sides say it's too expensive. This is by no means a black and white issue.

I was hoping the Senate would do their damned job and hold/shrink this stupid bill down to nothing.

What spending, exactly? Spending on FM&FM?
But hey, at least the Republicans are trying to attach some capital gains tax cuts for the bastards who put us in this place.
