Is it seriously this hard to give somebody $30k? (rant)

I have been on waiting lists at 6 different VW dealers waiting to get a new tdi wagon since June. The cars have been released for over 2 months now, and none of the dealers can give me an estimate on how long it's going to be until mine comes in. Many of them have only gotten a few (2 or 3) in so far. The dealers that don't have a waiting list have been charging $2-3k over MSRP. Those dealers usually have several on the lot not selling.

It's going to be my wifes car, and between the two of us, we have a few manditory specifications: Wagon, manual trans, not black, red, or white. Today I was making calls trying to find a car and was fed a line from a different dealer about he has a car for me, so I called around and got my deposits back from the other dealers, just to find out that the guy I was talking to today was reserving me a sedan. How complicated could this possibly be?

The wife finally decided to forget VW, and try to find something else. We tried a Subaru Outback, didn't like it. I get GM discount, so we went to see what we could do on a Saab 9-3 Sport-Combi. The dealer didn't know ANYTHING about the pricing on these cars. He even said that he didn't know because they don't sell too many. It was like pulling teeth trying to give this guy our money. I had to give him instruction step by step...do you have a car I want? No? Who does? He comes back with automatics. I had to tell him to go back again to get manuals..what the hell? That's just the beginning, but I'm getting tired of typing, and your probably not reading this anyways.

Seriously, does anybody else have so many problems trying to buy a new car? I haven't even started haggeling yet, I just want an informed seller. This is way too stressful, and if I didn't need a reliable car for my wife for the next year, I wouldn't be doing it. I would just keep maintaining my benz's

I don't know why you're having such a hard time. I was having the same kind of trouble trying to find a used Expedition a while back. Seems when you start being too specific, their heads start spinning around ala Exorcist.

Seriously, I ask for a manual, the guy gets me info on automatics. He didn't have any idea what the 2008 discounts were. He didn't know their financing rates.

You are seeing the results of sales paycuts, off the top of my head I know three car salesman that earned more than $200,000 selling cars mom and pop franchises have been bought out by mega franchises which has reduced commissions so low pay is the lowest denominator, personally I would love to sell cars for a living but the hours and payroll don't cut it.

If I were you find the salesman in the biggest office or the sales manager and plead your case but the first arrivals are going to customers that buy the most cars from the dealer.

and get a Volvo.

.......like to hazard a guess on the amount of training a salesperson receives prior to being put out on the sales floor.........??

Buddy up with a sales manager. They are buying them via realtime auctions now, no need to attend an auction.

if you have to go in there and say you're going to call VWoA and complain that they are not taking care of you as a customer and you might just take your money elsewhere.

they should be pampering you since they are all hurting for sales right now.

Here is a dumb salesman story for you.
We hired a salesman for our landrover and Audi lot in Denver. Whenever I would work under the hood of a Roverfor any period of time I would let the air out of the front tires so it was easier to reach in (I'm only 5'8") Whenever the salesman would come through my bay and see the front tires flat he would shake his head. Finally I asked him what he was shaking his head about and he replied "those rovers are junk. everyone I see has flat tires"

I've stopped going to one mercedes dealership to get parts because a tech ran up to me yelling something about my car being low on oil and making a horrible knocking sound... I just smiled and revved the engine a little to make him cringe.

This guy is really a "dealer" in name only. He is retired and sells a few cars on the side to give himself something to do.
