Mityvac rubber cork stuck

I bought a Mityvac model 7201 (the basic 8 liter version) a few months ago and have used it several times.

What's the trick to getting the rubber cork (expandable stopper) out of it to gravity drain it?

I thought that disengaging the lever and turning it CCW would loosen the expansion mechanism, but it does nothing.

I called their tech customer service and the tech told me to disengage the lever and pull straight up. He confirmed turning the lever does nothing. He told me some are just a little tighter than others. Well, I got this one out once before, but can't get it out this time.

They are sending me a replacement but I still need to get this one out. I can probably cut into it to remove it but I thought I'd check here first.

I had a helluva time getting mine out, too. I just worked it back and forth a bunch of times and it finally came out. After that it was a lot easier.

Thanks. I'll try using Vice Grips to get a better grip on the lever. I also thought about putting it in the dispense mode and pumping it up. Maybe the positive pressure will help.

Yes, I believe that may have been another factor in the trouble I had getting it out. I let mine sit for a couple of days before I was able to get it out.

Got it out last night using Vice Grips and rocking it back and forth while pulling hard. The bottom of the stopper had somehow formed a ridge that was exacerbating the problem. I shaved it down a little with a utility knife.
