256k MP3 is already very good quality, don't bother changing it. Anyone that thinks they can tell the difference between high bit MP3 and AAC is imagining things.

Conventional PC HDDs are cheap, yeah, but 1TB iPods aren't.

If you have a large music collection and some videos ripped, you can fill an 80GB iPod pretty quickly.

Isn't that like complaining that the airliines won't let you bring all your clothes and furniture with you when you go on vacation for two weeks?

To paraphrase George Carlin: "A place to put your stuff?

Thats why you buy a 160GB iPod like I did.

Look at Apple's refurbished/clearance store, the old 160gb iPod costs the same as the current 120GB iPod. The only differences are higher capacity, longer battery life and 1/2oz more weight.

To each his own. I use my iPod as my car stereo, it has my entire collection on it, videos as well. But whatever...what was the original post again?

I don't remember . . . but since I live on an island, I can tell you that I used to be able to drive nearly all the way around it on a single play of a C-90 cassette.
