I remember thinking when state played purdue that it was a wonder he didn't get a touchdown on every play. 6 8 and can leap out of here and run like a deer. I have this image of him jumping up catching a pass and the heads of the shorter pu defenders were down at his waistline.

He is a hoss!

They don't call them the spoilermakers for nothing!

One of my favorite memories is taking my dad who lived in Michigan to the home game PU and MIchigan about 1980 and got to watch Mark Herman and Dave YOung the great college tight end, about 6 8 with great soft hands, beat the highly rated Wolverines.

That does not happen very often.

There's a quarterback who made a splash recently, a one Mr. Thigpen. I wouldn't want to cast aspersions on anyone's family name but I might have changed that one years ago Thigmorton, or Higgins, or Van thiggenswhoopendorf.

One of my BiL's family name was Ratz, a German name. His father urged him to change it, said the grief in school just wasn't worth it. He changed it to 'Lee.'

Plaxico to lose around $800 grand in salary this year alone.

And he carried the gun so he wouldn't get ripped off. W/o a holster. In the waste band of his sweat pants.

A pity.

Predictions for next year?

Will he avoid jail? Shock time only? The charges are serious and would land any mortal in jail for years.

If he avoids significant jail time, will he play for the NFL next season?

My predictions (based on nothing): Maybe, probably, probably not.

One of my favorite famous names is Judge Learned Hand.

From wiki:

Billings Learned Hand (January 27, 1872 – August 18, 1961) was an influential United States judge and judicial philosopher. He served on the Southern District Court of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Hand has reportedly been quoted more often than any other lower-court judge by legal scholars and by the Supreme Court of the United States.

My crystal ball says 1 year in jail and a long NFL career.

What about the first commissioner of baseball,Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, appointed after Rothstein fixed the 1919 world series.

What about him?

HAH!! Just doing a take off on a Yogi Berra quote I heard today on NPR from a guy who interviewed him several times. At one point he told Berra, "OK, we're going to do some word association. Just tell me the first thing that comes into your mind for every new thing I bring up."

"Here goes: Mickey Mantle."

YB: "What about him?"

No but hey, that's some mouthful of a name.

I don't quite understand why the biggest guy in a bar, most likely with the other biggest guys in the bar, and on top of that probably has a bodyguard needs a gun.

They don't all have bodyguards, though they should. They are very high profile targets. Espn.com has a pretty cool article/interview with 6 or 7 NFL players about security.

Fellow Giants WR Sinorice Moss was robbed at gunpoint a few days after the Redskins game.

Best thing is to stay home at night.

I imagine it is exciting though being a celebrity and having folks coming up and fawning over you all the time. But the risk is guys coming up and wanting to challenge you to look tough....or getting robbed cause its presumed you have lots of money.

But, I imagine a lot of the pro atheletes are adrenelin junkies so the excitement/danger is part of the attraction

I remember about fifteen years ago, I was in the local Jewish deli in Indy munching my ham and cheese on rye sandwich and I spotted one of the nearly 7' professional NBA players from the Pacers walking toward me with his lady, carrying his tray. As he came by me we made eye contact and I nodded and maybe said hi and he did the same and kept walking.

It was fun.

I'll think of his name in about fifteen minutes.
