How is your road tax situation going with 40% of it used for other things besides road projects? They took a lot of money to get the "Tobacco Windfall" and that money was supposed to be for getting people off tobacco, pay for health care costs, etc, etc. That money was spent to get the "Tobacco Windfall". What became of that money that we got? Used for all sorts of other things. Fannie and Freddie? Need I say more? SSI is in trouble, not now but in the future. Wanna bet it will not require a bailout sometime in the future? Also, wasn't that fund raided for all sorts of things? The list can go on for a while. So, tell me. If you owned a pharmacy and needed to go out for a while, who do you give your keys to? The druggie down the street that promises to keep things safe?

Look at them today. They can't even balance their own budget in spite of using cash accounting and other accounting tricks. Now you think we should get them into another financial situation where they can use and abuse it?

Yeh, slip money to our elected officals. This also goes with illegal imigration. We 'pay' one way or the other. Cheaper labor or cheaper retail items. The flip side is less jobs and lower paying jobs. Really it depends on wich side of the economic divide you live on. Still, except for the uber-rich we all face a down hill slide eventually. I am not in favor of protectionism, nor import quotas. But that door swings both ways.

With illegals, how do you get rid of them all? The pro illegals have a very simple thing. You want to deport them, you are a hater of the Mexicans. With a charge of racism, it is VERY difficult to emerge a winner. Even if you do, you are a loser.

Me neither but the problem is that our politicians jobs are subjective and not objective based. They are elected on subjective things not what they have accomplished.

We ARE getting robbed. The question is who is the robber. Me, I'll take my chances with the business sector. Them I can refuse to a point. The govt is much harder to refuse.

That doesn't make any sense. The government gave business money. Where did you refuse business?

What was your original question about then when you asked if I rather got robbed? By whom and how?

By getting tax dollars with no rules, business robbed you through government. If government had equity stakes, then at least it could influence business into using the money as it was intended - to loan to other businesses and to people.

But no... Socialism. Boo!

In theory, I agree with you. In practice, whenever the govt got involved, it became more cumbersome, cost went up and what not. Those were only a small handful of examples I gave you. Personally, I would rather not have govt involvement in anything more. I am not really for this bailout, auto or any industry. I believe in getting more done thru less govt.

Orderly bankruptcy? Can someone explain this in layman's English?

WASHINGTON – The Bush administration is looking at "orderly" bankruptcy as a possible way to deal with the desperately ailing U.S. auto industry, the White House said Thursday as carmakers readied more plant closings and a half million Americans filed new jobless claims.

No one yet knows what that means. We'll have to wait for the details of the proposal. But so far it sounds good to me.

Well, the administration lied or changed its mind. Bush loaned them money.
