I'm selling my classical guitar. I have it with a friend who teaches a lot so I was hoping he would sell it for me and pocket $500. It's made by John Dick Guitars and I wanna get $7500 for it.

I suspect that is your problem.
![]() Kidding aside, that's always an issue when you are at the high end of a niche. I'm a guitarist as well (I think you knew?) and I have some gear that I know I will never get my return on the investment - not anytime soon anyway. Have you posted in all the relevant online forums? I was going to ask you what kind of guitar...I'm thinking of selling my Taylor T5 Koa in order to get an acoustic guitar (dread/jumbo). Good luck though!

If that is so, how in the world did you get your hands on a $7K classical guitar?

You should contact large, renowned auction houses (Sothebys, etc) and see if they are having any upcoming sales that focus on high-end muscial instruments. It would be best to get that guitar in a room full of discerning buyers who know what they're bidding on. You can always set a reserve to make sure nobody steals it from you.

Thing is, it's not really that expensive for a concert level classical guitar. It's about right where it should be. I have other sources but they want 20-25% fee to sell it. That's a lot of money on $7500, besides I'd rather sell it locally. Maybe I'll wait a bit and see. Once the economy picks up who knows.
