I read that article last year at the library. If its the same one, I recall them not talking too swiftly of the MB manual transmission.

Yeah, my old 84' Accord was very squeak and rattle free, despite well over 200K miles. It had a factory AM-FM cassette though, since it was the LX model.

The no radio thing was weird...I had to buy a $65 plastic adapter to mate the Sony FM/cassette player to the dash but, was impressed that all the speaker wiring was already in place!

Nice car but the seating was horribly uncomfortable on long road trips for anyone over 225# and 6 ft.

Yeah, my old 1985 380SE had very annoying squeaks/scrunching from the door panels, but otherwise it was rattle/squeak free. My 1988 300SEL in comparison is a much quieter car. No squeaks or rattles at all and the door panels quiet too. Hopefully it will stay that way for a while, but the "southern" sun takes a toll on 1980s Mercedes interiors.

I had a old 1969 Chevy Caprice 4dr a couple of years ago and that car was amazingly squeak and rattle free. My 1973 Pontiac Grand Ville is not as rattle free, but my 72' Chevy Caprice wagon is.

Also, my grandfather has a 1955 Cadillac thats 100% rattle/squeak free.

I use to listen to C-net Radio, back when they had such a thing. I remember them talking about the development of the "nav" system. one guy had a tablet pc from like 95 and he had a kit installed on his car that tracked when it turned and how far it drove and with that information, and a preprogrammed starting location it could accurately give your location. If i remember correctly he said the kit came from a cop car.

I miss C-net Radio

The new Sony GPS units feature an internal inertial/gyro system that takes over the positioning function when you can't "acquire" a gps sat. Reviews indicate it is pretty good.

Suprised it was Loran based. But I guess that would only work along the coast.
