I gave away $40 over the last two days

In tips. $5 for lunch, $5 for dinner, $20 to my indy mechanic, $5 to the dog groomer, $5 for hotel housekeeping.

Crap adds up.

I'm a light tipper these days.

What drives me nuts are the tip cups everywhere, like at Subway. WTF your getting paid by the hour.

First of all, you're not a hot chick server.

Second, you haven't cleaned my hotel room wearing a French maid outfit.

Sooo.. nope!

It will all come back to you in some way or the other. Two days ago I gave a ride to a weathered old man who was walking down my street in freezing weather carrying a gas can. He was ex-military and we chatted. Took him to the gas station and then back to his car. It was older than my '81 SD; was a '78 Ford four door.

Sent an immediate email to my kids and asked them to do a good for someone today. Makes you feel good doing something for someone else for a change.

That was very nice. I always try to help people too. Last time was some poor guy stuck on the side of I-81. He needed to have his car jumped and the alternator leads tightened as he had rundown his battery driving with the alt disconnected ...

There are non-karma benefits to this as well... I pushed good looking woman's car out of traffic on the George Washington Bridge and ended up going out with her for a year

I always tip 20% in restaurants...if the service is above average...that way, if there's something a little "sucky" about it, I can drop it down to 15% (or 10% if it's tolerable)...

My first job, getting a paycheck, involved a sit-down dining establishment. I didn't work the tables, I was in the back doing everything except counting the money...the waitresses we're making $1.15/hour + tips...some of them did pretty darned good...others had the attitude that it was owed them. Those gals didn't last long...but the ones that made the dough worked their tails off...

Waiting on diners isn't an easy job...you're dealing with how many people with how many problems and each person is bringing their troubles and tribulations to a table you have to service...you're nothing but eye-candy and the best you hope for is that they don't "stiff you" on the check and you get some sort of reward for putting up with their table manners...if those exist anymore today...

And our waitresses worked the floor with 4" heels and frickin' short skirts...when they were back in the kitchen, it was like watching little kids the first time they were up on ice skates.... Walking on 4" stilettos on greasy floors was an art...and when one of the girls would break off a heel, it was like watching a NASCAR crash at the finish line...

Kuan...keep the servers in cash...skim back elsewhere if you have to...the girls will remember you if you treat 'em nice after the service...

Exactly. I always tip 20% and even more if the person waiting on me is exceptional. Of course if they are real bad the tip-o-meter goes down.

If you are going to eat there again, tipping 20%+ really makes you stand out when you return....

For Hotel staff, I do the $5 a day for the cleaner.

It does add up...

Is bringing the indy mechanic beer the same thing as tipping him?

But if he dons the French Maid Outfit and prances around your hotel room and cleans it, will you tip him and for what "services"?

And why do you think I stopped to help the hottie that spun her car out into the ditch if not in hope that she will give me some nookie? Or at least a peek at her rack? Unfortunately, she did neither.

When I was in school and had to write programs for classes, I would start out with a draft program, probably not like like the way it works and rewrite it a few times till I get it working the way I want it to. When some hottie asks me for help, I usually give her one of my old prototypes and she hands it in for credit. Once in a while, I get a real "Thank You!" for my work.
