Yes and no. If I wear the wrong shoes when I run, there's hell to pay... but my mechanics are far from perfect. I happen to wear Asics well (the GT 2xxx series are really nice for distance running FOR ME). I would advise that anyone looking to get into running go see a GOOD running shoe specialist. They can watch you run on a treadmill, look at your feet, etc... and make suggestions. I have a narrow heel and wide to box, so some shoes I simply can't wear. Nevertheless, your point is well made for many runners.

I need to start running again as well..we should start a MS Running Club Don.

I run in NB shoes as well. I love running, though I do find it hard to start once I've stopped for a long while (like now). I currently weigh about 195 lbs, need to get down to 185 lbs. A couple of years ago, I was running about 5-6 Km or more every two days and I dropped down to about 168 lbs. Though I felt great, I was a matchstick.

that would be cool. I want to start running again so I have something to do.

I was looking at the NBs's. I've got an issue of runners world with tons of shoe reviews and a Sports Authority/Dicks nearby so I can try on shoes and order them offline if need be

I should start running too, I'm easily 30 pounds overweight.
I'm around 220 at 6'. Would like to get at or below 190.

I have medium flat feet so I wear a medially posted shoe, but as far as those are concerned, I can easily use one of many different brands. I think most people could switch brands if they wanted. Some people are just afraid to go all Obama and change even though subsequent technology might even be better.

Absolutely true. I *generally* have a hard time fitting into Adidas, Puma, Nike, etc... though with my toe box requirements. I did find that I can wear Nike trail shoes; I had to buy some on short notice for winter running on a trip, and they have worked out well. It's a bummer having goofy feet -- I miss the days when I could actually wear Converse All Stars.
