$0.85 for a schmear of butter

That's what the bagel shop charges me to have my bagel buttered.

That's to disincentivise(?) you from making an unhealthy choice. Pre-emptive taxation if you will.

Maybe they're going with the it's expensive therefore it must be good idea.

I thought it was free. They have the bagel prices listed, then in the corner it lists the "on the side" items.

fuq! It's a good thing I don't go to bagel shops often.

Think how much labor went into that schmear.

Health insurance, pension, profit-sharing, unemployment....

I think you underpaid.

At work here, they've started charging a nickle for each of the small condiments - butter pats, peanut butter, jellies, etc... Friggen' 40 cents to add cheese to an egg!

I think it's a depression. Why not just charge .85 extra for the bagel and tell the customer the butter is free.

That's it!
Next time at a diner or buffet line your pockets with those little butter packs.
Order your bagel, take a butter knife out of your pocket, pop the cover and spread your butter on your bagel.

My thoughts exactly. Then sell a few packs to other customers for $.50.
I've never heard of a charge for buttering a bagel before. Do they charge for toasting it too?

You could recommend that they invest in one of these:
