Washing aluminum trailers

What's the best way to clean aluminum horse trailers? Not looking for a show quality finish, just something that might brighten it up a little. I've read on-line about acid washes that tend to turn the aluminum white. Don't want that. I want something safe, that won't hurt the aluminum.

How about wheel cleaners? Supposedly safe for alloys, yet powerful enough to remove dirt and grime that accompanies them...

You are correct in assuming that the 'acid' cleaners will 'whiten' the aluminum, I too would stay away from them. One cleaner you may want to consider is Simple Green. Mild, not too toxic, I use it on my wheels, and for my hands too. Good luck.

Aluminum oxidizes instantly when exposed to air. I don't thinl you will ever find a long term remedy short of using some sort of clear coating.
