replacing dish network receiver
Can I replace a dish network receiver by simply swapping the card or is there more setup needed?
Thanks, Sixto 87 300D |

The cards are "married" to the receiver when the receiver is authorized. If you buy an ebay receiver, Dish will probably have to send you a card if the new one is not equipped. I just went through all our receivers here at work and put new cards into them.
What are you trying to do? When I have a dead receiver, I just install the new one, call up Dish and give them the number of the old receiver and smart card, tell them to de-activate it and then give them the new numbers and have them activate the new receiver.

I see used Dish DVR receivers for sale for more attractive prices than renting from Dish. A DVR is not worth the monthly fee but prices of used DVR receivers are fair.
I want is to be able to pause and rewind live TV with minimal hassle. I don't need to record a show at 4am every full moon or anything like that. I don't mind manually setting a timer the few times I record a show. What I don't want is lots or wires and lots of remotes and lots of things between the Dish receiver and TV. I certainly don't want to introduce a PC to the mix. Sixto 87 300D |
