Not that good, I need a lot more practice. I don't own anything right now that will go much past 400...

Get some sort of varmint rifle 22-250 .243 .22 Swift or something like that and get good with that light recoil before you pick up any bad habits with larger rounds.

My mini 14 is pretty light recoil.
I really need to go to some sort of class to learn the right way to shoot. I'm sure I could hold the rifle better, and pull the trigger smoother.

So you want to buy a Top Fuel Dragster and you can't even make consistent passes at the strip? Sounds like it will be a waste of ammo to me. Now if you want to collect it just to collect it, fair enough.

I have about 15 or so Mauser 98 and Mosin Nagant variants. They are great for what they are, which is sturdy battle rifles designed to take down a man out to about 300 meters, beyond that with their standard issue sights you are merely throwing lead in the general direction of the enemy hoping you'll hit something. The sights are ranged out to over 1000 meters but that's for raining concentrated volley fire down on enemy squads, companies, artillery batteries etc. Remember these things were designed in the later 1800's so they had to be able to engage enemy artillery which was the big killer on the battlefield back then as well as shoot at individuals.
Frankly you can hardly see a man beyond about 400 meters let alone hit them. That's why sniper rifles have telescopes mounted on them. - Peter.

My friend Neil had one back in the late 1980's or early 1990's It is a heavy rifle, but lots of fun to shoot. He named it AT&T 'cause it could "reach out and touch somebody".
He also had the paratrooper M1 Carbine and a Czech version of the AK-47...

A G3 is illegal in CT.
Anything H&K is silly money. MP5's, G36's you can't even get in this country. You can buy the parts kit but only the civilian recever. To get the military one is going to be a gray area and all of $10k. 416's you can't get, PSG1's are uber rare and worth as much as a car. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=129738340 H&K stuff is nice, but its premium.
