Football players aren't the sharpest tools in the shed to begin with. They should really focus their limited brain capacity on driving and nothing else.

having seen studies by the Insurance Institute concerning texting while driving has convinced me there are some activities which require our sole undivided attention. that means turn off the radio, crack the windows, empty the coffee or soft drink and throw the cell phone/IPhone/Blackberry in the back seat and friggin DRIVE. your life and the lives of others may depend upon it.

I am dealing with a herniated disk in my neck because of someone texting and driving, I was rear ended. A bunch of B.S. I bet the girl still drives around texting and driving.

Texting while driving is much worse than other distractions because you have to actually look at the damn device to read and write on it. I see it more and more often -- people driving down the interstate staring into their own lap.

I wrote my local state representative to ask him to dig into the subject and consider sponsoring a bill to restrict or outlaw it. Then one night I happened to come up beside him commuting home. He is a crackberry head and, yes, he was texting while driving. Needless to say, he politely declined my request.

send a copy of your letter along with a statement that you witnessed him texting while driving to the local newspaper and television stations. usually there is one or more television station that has a "five on your side" type of show. call them first and find out how to submit the information. the local media can be POWERFUL and get things done when nothing else works. of course, he'll probably quit sending you text messages after that....

It seems it should be ticketable under some existing laws. Its the same as reading a book or newspaper while driving, or applying makeup or doing a crossword puzzle. You don't need laws for each individual activity, just one that encompasses dangerous driver distraction, or unsafe operation of a vehicle.

We're lucky the German's send us cars...

are not speed governed to a Maximum 17 MPH.

What would the Staatliche Polizei do if they catch someone Texting and Driving?
(AND we're not even talking about on the Autobahn!)

( It bothers me,I cannot eliminate the 33 1/3% of IDIOTS with
Driver's Licenses from our Roadways. BUT the Insurance companies make Too
much money with the Status Quo. )

Yup. Of course, I was almost killed by a guy reading a map on his steering wheel on the highway yesterday. If it's not texting, it'll be something else.

Just made it illegal here in VA. But, there's always a catch. It's not a primary (ie stoppable) offense, and the first time ticket is $20. Now, there's a law with some teeth. (dripping sarcasm).
