Ask the 10's of million Americans covered by medicare, the VA, and social security how happy they are about government run programs. I believe you'll find the government does a good damn job with healthcare and social programs. Always room for improvement, but in general the benefits provided are well accepted by the particpants.

The government does an excellent job with Medicare. The costs to the providers are squeezed to the point where many of them won't take Medicare patients. Unlike many government programs, this one pays just the bare minimum necessary. Naturally, the quality of the care might suffer somewhat.............but, to provide universal, unlimited health care to the aging population is no small accomplishment.

Sure they are. But the real question is, who's paying for it?

If they had to pay for it out of pocket themselves, I'm sure they wouldn't be as thrilled. As many are finding out now, lose your job, lose your benefits.

Oh yea, there's always COBRA. How many people can afford to pay COBRA after they've lost their jobs? Not many.

Here we go again. The issue is not the quality of our healthcare. The issue is people without healthcare.

These are the same people who are telling us they can run health care, and they can't do a used car program?

They are NOT qualified to run health care.
Would you prefer the govt had allocated trillions for the cash-for-clunkers program and charge you in advance for it? So what, there was more demand for this program than anticipated. More money can be added. I think other posters here have already adequately addressed your ridiculous idea that govt can't run health care.

Two debates going on here.

1. Should everyone be covered?

2. If the answer is yes to the 1st question, what
is the best way to do this.

I would say:

1. Yes, everyone should be covered and everyone should contribute to the system rather than waiting until they get sick before seeking insurance.

2. Have a public insurance plan that every legal resident can use, offers good benefits and is taxpayer paid. Limit medical liability. Provide incentives for doctors to go into general medicine where demand will increase. Provide incentives for preventive care and patient well-being.

How is one to enforce who is a legal resident? Can't be done, just ask California.

Sure it can be done. Whether it will be done is another issue. I'm thinking with the national/public insurance system everyone who's legal here would get an insurance card from the govt. If the system works properly, then illegals wouldn't get the card, and wouldn't get any treatment, aside from maybe minimal ER treatment if necessary on the way to the deportation center.
