Yup, the armed forces advertising campaigns target poor, undereducated, wannabees.

I think that is sad and disgusting.

The grandiose bull " Army of One " or " The few, the proud " kind of stuff really triggers the wannabees.

The talented and educated that want to serve the country go to work for defence contractors, wind up getting paid much better.

I think you are a victim of some propaganda. Today's military needs people who can be trained for some highly technical tasks. Uneducated, or rather uneducatable people would be a drain on the effectiveness of each unit.
Back in the days of the draft there was more truth to your criticism--the educated or well-to-do could wrangle an exemption. Today, the situation is different.

The military clearly isn't for everyone; but its not the place to stupid people, either.

I usualy ignore your posts, but I couldn't resist this one.

My good friend just joined the navy and tested into being a nuke, think you can handle a nuclear reactor?

I did not say that all military personell are undereducated.

I said that their advertising campaigns target the poor, undereducated, wannabees.

I should have expected the over reaction.
Just mention anyting about the military to some and they have a fit.

------------------------------

And what you said is a fine example of the egomaniacle grandiose bull I talked of.

I am not going to put your friend on some pedistal because he is "being a nuke"

My wife works on far cooler stuff for a defence contractor.
Stuff that gives the wannabees a boner...

Does that make her better than your friend ??

Your posts consistently are not on topic, uninformed, poorly written and show a clear lack of wisdom. If you used a spell checker you'd move up a step, Rich. Thanks for the suggestion- you are now on my ignore list.

Sure the Navy has complex jobs that require training and education but so does health care, think you can handle brain surgery?

I would only want my son or daughter in the Navy though Annapolis or NROTC

Think many doctors are going to want to go through medical school for brain surgery when they make $50k a year?

Doctors earn than $50K, Most RN's make over $50K.

Job satisfaction is much of the reason to go to med school not
the money. If want to get rich there are easier ways IMHO

Job satisfaction is part of it, but earning $300k-$1m plus is quite a motivator to get $200k+ in debt with student loans.

You might be able to get really smart people to throw away three years of their life and get hundreds of grand into debt for chump change, but I'm going to bet not.

So is the government going to pay doctors what they want?
