Microsoft 7

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/07/23/cnet.microsoft.windows/index.html

from what Ive read its supposed to be good as a xp but with the look and feel of vista. I never transfered to visita since I never liked it and tried it when they offered free beta verison. Do you guys think it will live up to the hype or be another visita?

Its quite good, I've been running it for about 5 months (since beta) and it runs perfect, as good/better than XP....with all the nice new features and visual candy. I'm planning on upgrading once it comes out. Faaar better than vista, that's for sure!

I haven't heard much about how much hardware is going to be made obsolete. Vista really wacked a lot of HP products.

Does this mean that we will be able to upgrade Vista to 7 with no compatibility problems? Could it possibly be a free Micorsoft download? And then will we be able to run HP periferals again?

I have Vista on my HP and it has worked fine for two years now. In another two years when I'm due for an upgrade, 7 will probably be standard on everything so thats what I'll get.

Yes to the first question and No to the second question.

Why would they give it to you free?

Its a much better designed OS, and it runs on lower hardware very nicely. Even on little netbooks.

Yes, I'm anxious to see how well Chrome works.

Chrome has been a bust so far, critics say it will likely struggle to make any inroads into the OS market. There are already several well developed Linux Distributions, Windows is well seasoned, and MAC has a good share now. It's chances are minimal.

I was afraid to even try Vista because I heard many horror stories about that OS. I hope Windows 7 IS better in case I find myself having to use it.

I'm hoping to switch to a MacIntosh for my next computer, though.

Question is whether software that used to work on Vista will work on 7.

That name "7" makes me think of Jeri Ryan. 7 of 9, tertiary adjunct of unimatrix 01.

The critics said the same thing about Android.

Obviously it will. Windows 7 has similar foundations to vista, but a LOT of work went into making it efficient and how it should be....like Vista SHOULD have been in the first place.

It will run (and does) XP/Vista applications just fine.

You're hoping to spend 2x as much because the computer is shiny?

Its not worth it.
