Truth about the "death panels"
Found this article and felt the need to share. link is here http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2009/08/13/oh-those-death-panels/
Oh, Those Death Panels Posted by Amy Sullivan Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 10:14 pm 48 Comments • Trackback (0) You would think that if Republicans wanted to totally mischaracterize a health care provision and demagogue it like nobody's business, they would at least pick something that the vast majority of them hadn't already voted for just a few years earlier. Because that's not just shameless, it's stupid. Yes, that's right. Remember the 2003 Medicare prescription drug bill, the one that passed with the votes of 204 GOP House members and 42 GOP Senators? Anyone want to guess what it provided funding for? Did you say counseling for end-of-life issues and care? Ding ding ding!! Let's go to the bill text, shall we? "The covered services are: evaluating the beneficiary's need for pain and symptom management, including the individual's need for hospice care; counseling the beneficiary with respect to end-of-life issues and care options, and advising the beneficiary regarding advanced care planning." The only difference between the 2003 provision and the infamous Section 1233 that threatens the very future and moral sanctity of the Republic is that the first applied only to terminally ill patients. Section 1233 would expand funding so that people could voluntarily receive counseling before they become terminally ill. So either Republicans were for death panels in 2003 before turning against them now--or they're lying about end-of-life counseling in order to frighten the bejeezus out of their fellow citizens and defeat health reform by any means necessary. Which is it, Mr. Grassley |

It's amazing. I had the TV on this morning and the talking heads were discussing death panels. I don't think I have ever heard such nonsense. They might as well have been talking about whether Obama's plan will allow martians to perform surgery.
Aside from the GOP's obvious dishonesty on this issue, it is just odd that they would pretend to oppose end-of-life planning. What kind of human being opposes that? Back in the spring and early summer, their big argument was that we are better off with judges who are not able to empathize. Now this. It is so strange. It's even stranger that their death panel lie seems to be helping them in the polls. God help us. |

In Medicare (At least, for now...), you get to pick and choose.
In "O-care" - forget the choice...it will be made for you... There's the difference. Small. But, final.

Why doesn't the mainstream media simply report these ideas as false. I wonder what the media would do if Palin stated that the Obama administration was going to arrange for the demon possession of its opponents.

I started reading the legislation...it's like trying to read a road-map for a country that you don't even want to be in...
Out of pure frustration, you'll throw your arms up (If they haven't taxed them off you first!) and let them decide how to treat you, if you qualify for the type of treatment they'll allow... We are trading in the Insurance Interests and putting goobermint toadies and lackies in their place... Like I said earlier... Do you want someone checking your prostate that has a fear of you sueing his @ss off, or do you want someone that's checking your prostate that has no fear of you? Answer that and you have your answer for who's in charge of your healthcare.

Lets see, the Dems say there is no such thing as death panels (of course those words were never used, but you get the idea). But now they have taken that provision out of the bill. Hmm, I wonder how they removed something that didn't exist?

I executed a living will and a durable power of attorney almost 20 years ago. I went to my lawyer, who charged me $100 or so. So now the g'ment offer the services of someone trained in these matters and Sarah Palin, who can see Russia from her house, calls it a death panel. All of us can be very thankful this idiot is not a heartbeat away from the Whitehouse.
