Someone talk me out of this W116
as you can tell from the pictures, its a 450SE
88,xxx kil. on it sorry about the cellphone quality pics... I say, grab it. The 116 is a nice car. Looks to be a 73 with manual climate controls.
I have a clean hood you can have for $75 if you can figure out a way to get it from SE Wisconsin. If it is a 73, its a djet before the emmission controls choked the 4.5. It should move pretty good.

I'd drive it door to door for around $100 (fuel/munchies for such a trip)

my issue would be maint.
I could totally drive to get the new hood, might need to locate a sunroof as well, pending actual rust issue underside is damn near spotless. UGH I want it sooo bad... i'm trying to do research via 4-5 different forums... I hate this part... this car, is actually stressing me out LOL

W116 advantges,
Do be careful about the rust issue, it is a deal killer with these cars.
Other than that, they are wonderful cars especially the '73 pre-cat ones. Huge, spacious living room comfort, and space inside, enormous prestige, second to none build quality, safety, durability and longevity guaranteed, nice used examples getting rare, all parts still available, from the Mercedes Benz classic center, and always will be, huge bus sized steering wheel, will go to stratospheric mileages, when clean, always a guaranteed crowd pleaser..

If it's decent, go for it. I haven't seen a nice W116 for sale locally in a long time. I see more W108 and W109 cars in driving condition than W116s around here for some reason.
The last one I looked at was on a used car lot, and the seller had spent a lot of time shaping foam to the contour of the rocker and lower quarter panels, then put shiny paint over it. On first inspection, it looked great...
