300dT vs. Subaru WRX Sti

yeah, so one of my army buddies just picked up an sti. beautiful car--grey metallic paint, evo style body kit (as in mercedes sport evolution-ISH)

so we were on the street at lunch, and i pull up next to him in my '82 300dt and give him the nod, just to get a laugh. he actually takes me serious. hahaha, the race is on!

i figure my odds are one in 20, and that one only if he mis-shifts so bad he jacks up his tranny and is dead in the water.

in the first 30 feet, he gives me a head start, which i need until the turbo spools up in the right rpm band. course by the time it kicks in, he's whizzed past me with his fart-can blaring. i think he reached an 1/8 of a mile in like, half the time it took me--so you do the math, based on your 1/8 time.

yeah, apparently now that he's a bigtime Sti guy, he takes every challenge seriously, even ones against older turbo boats with about as much acceleration factor as a vw bug. course his next test will have to be against one of my other buddies with an older gen lancer evo. we know who will win that one. i'll definitely be riding in the lancer--just to get a ****-eating grin on my face after we blow him away.

course if i was driving the 190e 3.2, it'd be a different story altogether

You seem to be pretty obsessed with street racing in your diesel.......

Ummm, yeah. If you want to street race, any 61x Benz is a poor choice. If you want to spend some (as in a lot of) money, you can go with a fully bombed sequential turbo Cummins with a Stoopid pump. Done right, you can easily bust a Hemi with one.

As much as I hate the fart can mentality and street racing idiots, the 190e 3.2 would fare about the same against a stock Sti.

Doesn't the stock Sti push out more than 300hp? 'Top Gear' did a comparison of the WRX and the Lancer Evo and the Mitsu won almost every challenge though.

I am a big Subbie fan having had six in the family. One thing they can all do is CORNER... I loved having awd in my wagon and out cornering guys in M3's

Totally agree. And they are beasts in the snow! I've seen lately that someone has made a kit to install the Subaru boxer in old VW buses - pretty cool.

i have an 87 chevy nova (aka toyota corolla) that would be perfect to race that car. but if a justy pulled up next to me, and my radar detector showed clear, and there were no other cars in the area, we've got a green light to go

since i can't afford to import a mercedes sport evolution, and since they're not really available due to their rarity, i'm definitly going with a lancer evo as soon as i can afford one. the availability of aftermarket parts alone is amazing. try finding a bolt-on turbo kit for a mercedes--these guys have entire magazines and industries devoted to tuning these cars. blows my mind

I have a stage 2 bugeye wrx that will hang with a stock STI. When I was much younger I like to sprint race to 60 against everyone that thought their Honda was fast and I would blow their doors off that lasted for about a month. Then I learned that no matter what stupid fool was next to me trying to race me, it was not worth my time to go up against people with little toy cars. its like trying to out pull a semi with a bicycle.

Sad part is I have the parts sitting in the garage to add another 60-80 hp to my bug eye and Have had them for over a year. Just have not installed them.

Sometimes a bicycle can win against a semi in the 0-20 mph sprint.

I beat cars across intersections all the time on mine. They catch up pretty soon after that though.
