Got in an Accident
This morning was going perfectly up until i rear ended a Honda Ridgeline with my 16 valve
i wasn't going that fast. but i was in bumper to bumper traffic and i didn't leave enough room to stop. i think only the grill and chrome grill frame got damaged. but i haven't really looked at it yet. hood looks straight as far as i can tell. thank god that that trucks bumper was so high, do you know how hard it is to find euro bumpers for this car

All the 2.3-16 in the world, even the ones sold in the US, have the "euro bumper" . . . they didn't make a North American version.

Nope, the bumper impact strip (the part that has the license holder)l 201 885 12 21 is about $260 retail; the foam under it 201 885 07 37 is $92; the pricey part is the bumper cover, that goes behind all that and includes the chin spoiler 201 880 11 40; that's $640 and you'll have to paint to match.

unfortunately the frame crumpled on the driver side, about one inch. and the cross member in front the radiator was bent inward as well. the driver side headlight was cracked. and those are Euros.

Put something on the parts section and you might be surprised....Glad no one was hurt. I get chidded because I always leave enough room in front of me in case someone gets too close behind and isn't paying attention.

I'm aware the 2 second rule is pretty much unheard of in Southern California, but you might want to start using it.

Stop following so closely, you won't get where your going any faster.
Now your insurance is going to go up.

OK.........and the result is............your trip time will be two additional minutes. My guess is that the total time consumed by the accident (including the time to arrange all the repairs) will probably exceed an accumulation of about 300 trips that would have saved two minutes. ![]() I seem to recall that statement..........yet again..........about the average person............ |

The W201 is very soft in the front and rear, due to the designed in crumple zones on the very short wheelbase car. That's also why the fuel tank is vertically mounted behind the rear seat wall.

the reason the fuel tank is built behind the seat wall is because it's less likely to be part of the accident, not because of so-called crumple zones

I think W116, W123, R107 were the first of their classes for the fuel tank being inside the safety cage.

My 115 chassis '76 300D has the tank in the floor of the trunk with the filler door between the license plate and the taillight. My kid had to call me and ask where the heck you put fuel in the car the first time he filled it! Think I laughed for a minute solid. Would love to see those morons in the can't pump your own fuel states try to find it. Maybe take in a '63 VW Beetle too!
