Got in an Accident

This morning was going perfectly up until i rear ended a Honda Ridgeline with my 16 valve

i wasn't going that fast. but i was in bumper to bumper traffic and i didn't leave enough room to stop.

i think only the grill and chrome grill frame got damaged. but i haven't really looked at it yet. hood looks straight as far as i can tell.

thank god that that trucks bumper was so high, do you know how hard it is to find euro bumpers for this car

All the 2.3-16 in the world, even the ones sold in the US, have the "euro bumper" . . . they didn't make a North American version.

Nope, the bumper impact strip (the part that has the license holder)l 201 885 12 21 is about $260 retail; the foam under it 201 885 07 37 is $92; the pricey part is the bumper cover, that goes behind all that and includes the chin spoiler 201 880 11 40; that's $640 and you'll have to paint to match.

I'm aware the 2 second rule is pretty much unheard of in Southern California, but you might want to start using it.

The fellow who owns the machine shop did the exact same thing recently. When questioned why he doesn't leave 200' between vehicles...........his response was that other vehicles would move in and take that space.....................

OK.........and the result is............your trip time will be two additional minutes.

My guess is that the total time consumed by the accident (including the time to arrange all the repairs) will probably exceed an accumulation of about 300 trips that would have saved two minutes.

I seem to recall that statement..........yet again..........about the average person............

well thank god the bumper is in one piece then.

unfortunately the frame crumpled on the driver side, about one inch. and the cross member in front the radiator was bent inward as well. the driver side headlight was cracked. and those are Euros.

The W201 is very soft in the front and rear, due to the designed in crumple zones on the very short wheelbase car. That's also why the fuel tank is vertically mounted behind the rear seat wall.

Yeah, sometimes these mistakes cost a few bucks. Nobody was hurt and you had an expensive lesson. Don't beat up on yourself about it. We ALL make mistakes. I managed to break TWO windshields in less than one month. Usually this happens when we try to do too much at once. It's a message to slow down.

While not defending "bad behavior" . . . the 2.3-16 is famous for inciting it.

more mis-information by mti. the fuel tank has been mounted behind the rear seat wall on mercedes cars going back at least to the w114/115 era, before mercedes was building soft crumple zones.

the reason the fuel tank is built behind the seat wall is because it's less likely to be part of the accident, not because of so-called crumple zones
