Thanks for the excellent information! I have some ideas now for things to pursue.

It is not built before 1898.

you can find and sell just about tnything there. The caveat is that if the gun was made after 1899 you cannot ship it to a regular person, but only to a FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder like a gun shop. If you sell your gun and have to ship it, get the buyer's FFL contact information like the gun shop you are sending it to and get a copy of the FFL sent to you before shipping the gun. any store owner has copies of his FFL just for this purpose...

So I cannot sell a firearm to a local individual with out an FFL?

yes you can,you just can not ship it by ups,fed-ex etc.but if i was to sell one locally i would ask for a purchase permit.you never know if they are a felon.in which case your goose could be cooked if the feds found out.

I don't think you can send it in the mail but you can certainly sell it without an FFL. At least in WI you can. My understanding is that if I want to send my gun somewhere, I have to do it in person or get someone with an FFL on both ends. Last time I asked about pistol hunting in Alaska that was the answer I got. That since I cannot take my pistol thru Canada, I have to take it to someone with an FFL to send it to another FFL holder in Alaska. I could not Fedex it to my hotel.

I can sell it to an individual face to face in WI but if someone comes looking for the gun, it comes back to me. Then I have to show some proof that I sold it to get suspicion off me. I'd rather not go thru that step which is why I prefer to go thru a gun dealer. That way they file the paperwork with the ATF and I am out of the loop.

F2F transactions are allowed but I would want a record just in case something happens later and the ATF comes looking for you...

You can sell any weapon to an individual out of state that has a C&R license, if the weapon is C&R eligible, that means any weapon more than 50 years old, I've done it. Through the regular post office. The law says you must inform the postal clerk of the contents. They have the right to open and inspect.
I was visited by postal inspectors because I failed to properly secure the rifle and the package opened up in transit. I showed them the buyers C&R license and talked with the postal inspector in another state, in front of these guys, where this occurred. Remove the bolt from the rifle and package securely.

That's what I was going to suggest. Any pool hall in Dallas, if it ain't registered no where, they'll give you an extra $500, but make sure you wipe off all your fingerprints.

Check the BATF website for curios and relics and you can determine if it's considered a C&R or not. I have many friends with Federal (all-state) C&R purchase licenses and I am in the process of getting one. I can transport firearms across state lines just can't go to Alaska through Canada.

If you want to display a photo I can put you in touch with someone who could give you info.

Then you decide what you want to do.
