About to get a new Cell Phone, advice?
What's a good Smart Phone these days? I'll be getting a new phone within the next month or so. I really want an iPhone, but I have to stick with Verizon, due to sketchy service outside of town. How are the Droids? or the BlackBerry Storms? I didn't really get to check the phones out that much last time I was in my local Verizon store because they were being jerks to me.

I don't really know who makes the best iClone these days, I have heard some good things about the droid but I haven't played with one in person.

I'm getting a Droid in April when my phone rolls over (verizon "new every two").
I haven't decided between the Motorola Droid or the HTC model; difference being Motorola has a tactile slide-out keyboard and the HTC is on-screen. I have big hands. =( Big attraction for me is the ability to put a Physician's Desk Reference / US Pharmacopoeia and other med-schooly apps on it so I can ditch the stupid HP PDA. WiFi? Hell yeah. I'm not sure if you can get them without the stupid email package from Verizon or not. I have no use for cellular internet with WiFi being practically everywhere now.

If you can hold off a bit, there should be a fairly big release of "Snapdragon" powered phones running either Android 2.0, like the Moto Droid, or a variant like HTC, and also some Windows Mobile based phones. The Snapdragon is a 1Ghz mobile processor that apparently flies, but doesn't kill batteries.
Personally, I was considering the Moto Droid and spent a lot of time examining it and watching the initial user comments. However, on "black friday" AT&T put refurbished iPhone 3GS 16GB phones on sale for $49 . . . no brainer. |

Ask yourself what do you want out of a phone?
For me I use my phone as an MP3 player, day planner, web surfer, email, and the ever fun modding aspect. The assortment of smartphones out today do just that. I loved all of my Palm and Windows Mobile phones. However with the degree of functionality I got out of them there was always the probability of a crash. If you do none of these things a simple flip top phone will due. Also remember that on Verizon all smartphones require a data plan which starts at $30 a month. Go ahead and take a look at www.ppcgeeks.com .They're an excellent community if you need advice on HTC smartphones.

As far as VZW and AT&T . . . $30/mo is pretty much the only data plan for smartphones. While labeled by both as being "unlimited" data, there is a usage threshold that is being reviewed by both.

I have a Blackberry Storm, I like it. I plan on getting a Storm2 since the Primary Verizon phone can be upgraded every year.

I have a BlackBerry storm also, and I like it, but its no iphone. I am just a BB addict and I cannot go to a "lesser" phone. I absolutley hate Motorolas software layout! Its amazing what phones can do these days. I edited a college paper on my phone the other day and emailed it back to the writer!

That soft cap you're referring to is 5 gb. I have yet to break 1gb on my blackberry surfing the net and streaming music and youtube. You'll have to enable tethering without paying the extra money per month to surprass that!

I have AT&T and have a Blackberry. My Blackberry has been a great phone, and with that said, many of my friends have had fairly good luck with their BBs.
But, after having played with the droid, it seems like a fairly nice phone. I am with MTI here, and suggest waiting for a little bit if you can. I have been looking to upgrade to a new phone, and have been waiting to see what comes out.

It really depends where you are. I use my AT&T iPhone all over the country and the coverage varies. It's usually decent; but I'm stuck with them until I can get an iPhone on another carrier.
