How so? We pay for the roads that are built among other things from fuel taxes. I suppose if you want to talk GM, yes, it is subsidized.

Businesses do both. My point was the individual can't do anything.

Agreed. His choices are to take it up the butt or take it up the butt or for a change, take it up the butt.

That was my question I guess. Does the NYC public trans system support it's self from the fares or does the city give a subsidy for the subway?

The NYC transit system is supported by the outrageous tolls on all the bridges and tunnels that connect Long Island with NYC.

The system could never sustain itself when it charges $2.50 for a fare to go one way...........anywhere in the system.

I'm not aware of many states that find the operation of their state roadways "profitable." For instance, NJ's drivers GSP and Turnpike toll system don't cover their op costs, since it barely covers the debt service.

The average driver in NJ pays a-half penny per mile to drive on non-tolled roads, which the gas tax funds. Drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, meanwhile, pay seven cents per mile and four cents per mile, respectively.

The New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund Authority has new-money bonding capacity this fiscal year and next, but by July 2011, the start of fiscal 2012, its entire $895 million annual appropriation will be needed to cover principal and interest payments on the TTFA's nearly $11 billion of existing debt.

IOW shuffle money here to pay for that. AKA I rob Peter to pay Paul

Maybe that is why only the govt can get involved. Only they can shuffle the money around to make it look like you got a free deal

The same as found in a dictionary. It's way too late in the year for cuteness.

Word I heard is that he was not a terror suspect, merely a person of interest. Not apologizing for anyone but let's be accurate. The fellow had never perpetrated terrorism before as far as anyone knows.

Could well be that there are so many people of interest - millions - that staying on top of all of it is tough.

They? Won? There is no they, just a bunch of loosely affiliated fools. And the fellow in question is a loser as are most all of them. A small number of people are going to be severely inconvenienced now and then, as in killed or mutilated, and I do not sneer at what they will have to deal with. Might happen to me. But that is not victory for 'them.'
