thoughts on Apple's "iPad"?

I am not a mac fanboy that likes to take my hard earned money and blow it on apple products every quarter they release an updated iPhone or new mouse. But the iPhone was impressive, the MacBook Air was pretty cool.. but the "iPad"

not too impressed. sure it can do a lot of things but for a few hundred more you can get a 13"macbook or a macbook pro and do a lot more. I dont know if it will fail like apple TV did but who knows there are people out there( 70 million iphone/itouch users) that will probably buy one to add to their douche baggery accessory pouch

I will most likely get one but don't need it all.

I already have an iMac, MackBook Air, and iPhone. I'm a software snob who works for a software manufacturer (products unrelated to Apple's or Microsoft's products.) Apple really does know what they are doing making hardware and software systems that real people like to use and have very few problems. Their products just plain work well.

The iPad for me would essentially be a wicked cool replacement for what I use my MacBook Air for (surfing on a screen larger than the iPhone, emails longer than I want to type on the iPhone, and light word processing).

The ONLY thing that I found lacking in the iPad was I wish it had a DVI output (the same complaint I have about the iPhone, too) so I could fully replace my MacBook. This is really the only reason I have the MacBook Air. Apple would be wise to add that to the iPad's hardware.

Apple's weakest link is their iTunes software and the iPhone and iPad's reliance on it. iTunes I think is their weakest product. It has improved vastly over the last few years, but it is still clunky.

I love this comedic take on it.

I am pretty old and I know a lot of old people. They are all interested in the Ipad.

They look at it as an Iphone that you can read the screen on, sort of a large-type Iphone without the phone.

I guess that would make it an aid for Macular Degeneration.

iPad 1.0 on MadTV

Apple-dorks (and I use the term lovingly) seem to either love it or hate it, with few voices in between. The glass half empty crowd bemoan that it runs the iPhone/Touch OS; doesn't have USB; doesn't have a camera & mic; is 4:3 format . . . and most of all, it may not make them sexier and "smugger" in public, since the device was demo'd by Steve in what appears to be a home recliner.

The half full folks see it as the alternative to buying a $1000 macbook laptop since all they really want is a wireless "net appliance." A big enough screen to read and watch media instead of a smartphone; none of the geekiness of a netbook and virtually zero learning curve if you already have a Touch or iPhone.

I fully understand why there's no front facing camera in either the iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad . . . put a magazine or book in your lap or hold it as if reading . . . now imagine the camera angle if there was a webcam on that magazine or book . . . how's that nose hair and chin action workin' for you?

It's about what I expected, I'll probably pick one up to play with myself when they're available. It would replace my book reader at a minimum. I've also been planning on buying another MBP for one of my kids, I wonder if this will get enough software to be useful as a cheap laptop for a kid. I also expect that they will issue version 4 of the firmware at some point.
