Watch No Country for Old Men and then go for a hike alone the Texas/Mexico border?

Seriously, Santa Fe is a very cool old city sell worth a visit.

I agree. SantaFe's probably the best on that list.

Why Santa Fe?

And as fun as Jua'rez sounds, I dont think I'll be planning an unarmed trip there any time soon.

If you were smart, you'd stay the hell out of Juarez, it's a great place to get shot. El Paso is a $hithole. Head to Santa Fe, buy a map and drive along the Rio Grande north to Taos. See the Rio Grande Gorge, and Eagle's Nest Lake (it's in a volcanic crater). For a nature trip, hike the Cimarron Trail just outside of Eagle's Nest. Los Alamos, where the first atom bomb was built, is a cool town for history, as is Santa Fe itself.

If you are looking for party time instead of scenery, head north to San Antonio instead, check out the River Walk. Then drive to Austin and get directions to 6th St, music and party capital of Texas.

El Paso is the most crime-ridden, violent city in Texas. Be cool. Don't cheap out on hotels, stay in the best place you can afford. Dope deals are going on all over the place in the cheap digs, another great place to get shot is a Motel 6.

If you time it right, there are 2 Saturdays per year that you can visit ground zero of the first atomic bomb explosion at White Sands.

Is my geography that bad? I thought San Antonio was south of El Paso.

Exactly why my plans do NOT include El Paso, and Mexico is closed to anyone with a brain.

San Antonio is south of El Paso, but It's not right on the boarder. Been to San An, and it's a good time. But, It's a bit out of my range of commute.

Santa Fe looks fun, and its not too far from Albuquerque, where there's also amusement parks.

Carlsbad Caverns are not that far away either. On the way up to Santa Fe, stop in on the Camino Royale National Parks on the way. The Camino Orales was the expressway built by the Spanish to connect Mexico City with Santa Fe.
