Does anyone autox their MB?

I'm just curious...I know these cars aren't exactly autox friendly, but wondering if there are any out there. I'm planning on buying a street and race (autox or possibly rallycross) car in the near future and I'd like to keep it in the MBs or see if its even been done before committing to a Miata... I wouldn't RX one but I'd consider autox for something like an SL or C-class maybe. Anyone?

I have been to a few AutoX races recently just as a spectator. 190Es in the 4 cylinder flavors are only ones I have seen from the mid 80s to early 90s era. Lightest, more easy to strip and mod?

A C36 AMG might do the job.

Not mine, but that's me behind the wheel of a friend's parts car. Shortly after the competition, it donated a few parts to my 300D.

I used to autocross my 84 500sec in HS. I surprised some folks with the relatively huge car.

Then I switched to my 84 280e euro with lowering springs and konis on the back. I ran that in ESP against mustangs and camaros with suspension mods. Since nothing was available except the lowering springs for the 123 I was only able to beat some of them. I had a lot of fun though.

I have that car for sale here.

I now run a miata. Its a lot faster but nobody comes up and says how much they enjoy it since there are always eight or ten Miatas at any given autocross. Lots of parts availabld new and used for them and the're really quick...often setting fastest stock time of the day if the course is a handling course.

Talk to JohnHef... He Autox's his 500SEC, his 1987 300D and he has gone around in his W123 300DT! I THINK he might have done a 300SDL too...

I want to do my 300SDL just for the look on people's faces when the Queen Mary pulls out, flags fluttering, smoke belching from the stacks, people waving goodbye from the Lido Deck, etc...

I HAVE been thinking 190 for a fun car to replace the tired 528e

Hmm...a 190 might fit my price range, everyone I hear tells me how fun they are. Wouldn't mind an SEC, but its a bit larger than I was hoping since i already have a couple 126s. I'm gonna look into the w201s, I would immediately want more power and suspension upgrades . A C36 AMG would be AWESOME but the chances of me finding one are slim since they're hard to come by, plus it would max out my budget even after the tax return...

Thannks for the insight guys, I really do appreciate it. I hadn't even considered a 190 but lets see where the internet takes me!

You can have my C36 for $7000 or the Miata for $4500. Both are turn key and in excellent condition.

I think you had the right idea with a Miata. Its just a stupidly simple car that's fun to drive.
