I don't know about that. Can the food get digested and sent all the way to the skin in a matter of hours?

The stomach pretty much 'cooks' everything eventually, once it gets there. But before that there is contact in the mouth and esophagus. Plenty of time for trans-dermal diffusion directly into the blood stream. I think alcohol starts absorbing right away in the stomach.

I think alcohol absorbs from anywheres. IIRC, alcoholics avoid mouthwash with alcohol for that reason. Whether food can be done like that I am not totally sure. That is why I raised that question. Anyone know some science paper that shows one way or the other?

According to my wife who has to do physical exams, some of whom are that way, it isn't that bad. See post 5 and 8. There were times she wanted scuba gear.

Funny to see all this conjecture. It's all about body chemistry; either you're smelly or you're not. I eat tons of garlic, onions, spices, meat, etc. you name it. I can dig ditches out in the summer sun and not shower for 3 days and still not smell. Have never owned deodorant except back in school when you were required to bring it to gym class. My wife thinks it's great. Deodorant users are just masking what's there.

Which is great if somebody likes "what's there". OTOH, if you don't like "what's there", it might make a difference.

My co-workers have bad breath, which makes them smell the same on both ends and they refuse to take any action, even when I report it to HR.

What's it smell like? $$$$

None. I will not go digging for keys there. From what the wife has said, some of these women have enough yeast to make bread for a small village. I will take her word for it. Not interested to find out, are you?

Isn't this like "What do you do if you drop your soap while taking a shower in prison?"?

I know it's funny, but for some reason I associate BO with a nutty odor.

It smells kind of like mixed nuts.

But yeah politely tell her about it on the side. Just say, "Hey I'm so sorry to do this and it is really uncomfortable, but you have a very strong body odor that is bothering me."

If she takes offense then say you were only trying to help. Oh and if files a complaint with HR make sure you have documented that you contacted them first and that they did nothing. That way you won't get screwed over by that do nothing department.

What I have been reading, and I might be wrong, is that while esophageal absorption is possible (water, alcohol), because of the speed the food is going down, it is not going to absorb a whole lot. It has to stay somewhere to be absorbed.

Just trolling the web (webMD among others) - garlic, curry, onions, coffee and alcohol seem to be common causes of BO. So if you're having an Irish Coffee after a big Indian curry dinner, that would be kind of a perfect storm.
