Have you seen the security at any DOE (energy) nuclear facilities since 9/11? These guys probably have tanks and anti-aircraft weapons hidden away someplace. Without going into detail, the private security at commercial nuclear plants is also "extensive." Plenty of government agencies have weapons.
I have no clue what the Dept of Education is up to these days.

Speaking of Dept Of Ed, perhaps my bad on acronyms. I am very familiar with the security forces and measures that Energy has regarding protection of fissionable materials.
I was referrering to bid request for tactical shotguns for the Dept of Ed.
Yes, plenty of government agencies have guns and special reaction teams, including some that you would not think would. This is not an new issue, rather one that MSM used to report on with some degree of concern when the GOP was in office (Bush 41, maybe), regarding the rise of "SWAT" type teams throughout government. It has been a concern of mine for quite a while, I'd rather see conventional Federal LEOs like FBI in conjunction with State officials conduct law enforcement activities. In the FAA, we do not have SRTs and only accompany LEOs in certain situations and then only as subject matter experts.
