A C&R is a Curio and Relic license allows you to buy any gun over 50 years old or newer ones that have a collectible status. It is also called a FFL Class 3

I am going to go for mine as everything I own is older than 50 years anyway.

BTW you can transport you OWN guns across state lines without a FFL. You just need to obey state laws - unloaded locked in the trunk, etc...

What the FFL allows you to do is buy guns mail order and have them shipped to you instead of a gun shop - who has his FFL...

Yeah but getting your FFL and keeping it is a royal PITA, at least in CT. Its cheaper to just pay them $35 for the transfer.

I'd have to buy several dozen guns a year to make an FFL worth it.

When I have the money I want to get some class 3 toys. The only problem is that they are super expensive. A class 3 M16 lower is like $10k.

An 01 FFL is difficult to obtain in any state; with very few and rare exceptions one must be a for profit firearms dealer operating a business to obtain an 01.

An 03 FFL pays for itself with one gun purchase. Holders also get discounts from suppliers such as Midway USA.

I had a beautiful M1 delivered to my door a little over a year ago. A Swiss K 31 is another great milsurp to get.

Either way I'd just rather pay the transfer fee. If your an FFL you have to keep good records and are subject to inspections of them.

If I FFL 2-3 guns a year thats a lot. Plus a lot of stuff I buy is new, so I don't think it would fall under the C&R. Unless I'm wrong and FN Scars, HK's and LWRC's would fall under C&R.

Already have a K31 and M1 carbine, they are quite nice.

Gun barn is great, I've been there dozens of times...
I had occasion to shoot a friend's Class III M16 recently, right before he sold it. Your 10k figure is a bit low. He needed cash to finish his solar power project on his house. The gun quickly brought 14.5K President Obama's election has done wonders for gun and ammunition manufacturers and sellers, who are laughing all the way to the bank over the "shortage" and increase in prices for almost any weapon other than a .22. I had a stainless steel Ruger Vaquero .45 Colt SA revolver I paid 300 bucks for 5 years ago that I wasn't using. Put it together with a nice cowboy leather outfit I paid a hundred for used last month and had no trouble getting 1500 bucks for it. Fear sells, big time.

I'm a liberal by the way. We don't all pee our pants at the sight of big scary guns...then again we don't necessarily get wood over them either.
