What were the best April Fool! stories you heard today?

Here are two I heard:

1. BBC noted that the winter asparagus crop in Germany (Winterspargel) would reach record production levels ( a true thing) but that in Switzerland, late frosts and unseasonable weather had hurt the spaghetti crop, causing spaghetti futures to go up 10%

2. On a French website: The European Union budget of translators for all 27 languages of the EU had gotten so big that there would be a referendum on using only two languages, to cut costs and satisfy big and small nations. The two languages were English and Swedish, and of course, the French were up in arms about it.

Got any good ones to add?

Google renamed themselves to "Topeka" after the mayor of Topeka, KS joked about renaming the city "Google" earlier this year. You can still go to google now and it reads topeka

April Fools Day 3D-tv prank

My local radio station morning show here in Arizona was fooling a lot of people. Just switch the red and blue cables and wear polarized sun glasses and it turns your HD TV into a 3D TV. Lots of gullible people.

This morning at 5:30 I told my teenage daughter (with an absolute straight face and in a serious voice) she would be starting boarding school on Monday! I was laughing my ass off after I recovered from her left hook. She, however was totally not amused!!

It's a derivative of LOL.

I woke up this morning and checked craigslist as always, saw a Delorean for $500 in town. Skimmed the last 2 sentences and fired off the email. Was barely awake, I wrote the email in bed. After I had woken up completely I re-read the ad and looked at the date and knew I had been had.

I went to the dmv today, thinking that it might only take about 90 minutes. The receptionist said they were moving people along well all day! 4 hours later I exit with another temporary tag (expiring a day after the one I already have...) and orders to come back to the wonderful dmv again after getting an emissions test.

Not really an april fools, more of a gross underestimation of the half-assery performed at the local motor vehicle department.

Actually, it was an April fools joke- you were really in the new govt. run hospital, not the DMV. In your defense though it will be hard to tell the difference!!

A few from when I was a student ~ 35 years ago;

A group of students done up in gangster clothes burst into a strip club in the early hours & kidnapped the stripper off the stage (the girl & manager were in on it). She was taken back to one of the university student residential colleges, did a show for us all. The next morning, she was auctioned on the Uni lawns, the proceeds going to charity, The whole thing got TV /radio/ newspaper coverage. The owner of the club was happy for the advertising. I dont think the local police ever worked out what was going on.

There were 4 train level crossings on major roads around town. Simultaneously all 4 crossing boom gates were brought down during peak morning rush (just a wire across the tracks is all it takes). It took till lunch time to clear the traffic, it had banked back to blocking several major highways. A local radio station got a call from some one saying they were from a bicycle users group, claiming responsibility. The bicycle users group then claimed it wasnt them. It took days before it quietened down.
