Restoring the wheel.

Hi guys i'm about to start restoration on my 1982 240D with 100,000 miles on the clock.

I have been thinking about changing the color of the car and now i need some ideas from you regarding what color to use.

If it were me, I would not change the color. Just my opinion.

The w123 I drive is blue, I like it.

The problem with a color change is you HAVE to do it right. Inside of the trunk, door jambs, bottom of the hood, under all the trim, its just an epic pain in the ass.

I've never seen a green W123. I'm still kicking myself for not buying the only green W108 I've ever seen.

That much being said, color changes are a pain to do right, and color changes done wrong just detract a lot from the aesthetic value of the car.

Edit: Come to think of it, I have seen a picture of a green W123 before. It was a right hand drive 280E for sale somewhere in California. It looked good and I would have appreciated the novelty of a right hand drive car in the States. I've still never seen a green one in person.

I would say that to a buyer in America or on the continent, but the OP is on a rather small island and I'm sure that affects market availability.

Startling new development.

I've been quite busy restoring the wheel to its former glory.

Well obviously changing colors is not longer an issue. With that level of deconstruction you can do any color.

Amazing work! That rear window repair looked flawless!

In the immortal words of one "Gaff" to "Deckard"...

"Youve done a mans job sir!" That is truly an inspiration to folks who write off cars on account of far lest rust than this one displayed. I Will say that you can change it to any color you'd like at this point, but I still say stick with white. Though to be honest in my opinion "hellelfenbein" is possibly the best color for a 123. Though the safety orange that MB used might be a good choice in Iceland. Anyway, whatever you do I hope you do it as well as you have done the work so far. It's really fantastic what you have accomplished.

But I still think you should stick with white

- Peter.
