I have both. For a lot of the trips we use an old k2 (fiber glass) that has 2 extra port holes added. We can get all the required gear & food for up to a week in, it sits very low in the water for the first few days. We have also used a Canadian open style a few times (borrowed). For white water I use a 'Dancer' single. I am getting too old for that now, injuries hurt too much for too long.

My daughter began paddling in a Dancer XS. We have lots of open canoes but we also paddle sea kayaks. I used to whitewater kayak, then switched to C-1's but I paddle mostly open canoes in whitewater nowadays.
