The answer to the question is that it is up to the individual to classify himself as he wishes. If Obama says he's black, well, he's black.

So if there is a grant from the gov for minorities only then anyone can apply by just call themselves a minority. I like this- because then everyone is black, everyone is white, everyone is everything, and no one can prove otherwise. Using your system people are what they want to be- really then there is no race. I hope one day everyone will think like you and I! We can now stop giving money to folks because they are this "race" or that "race" because race is what each individual classifies themselves as!

"Race" is quickly replacing "patriotism" as the last refuge for scoundrels.

The post was simply to illustrate that regardless of Obamas genetic back ground, he is considered to be a black man.

Oh I don't think you are racist- I believe you to be quite anti-racist. It most likely ranks up there with things you abhor most- racists I mean. But if race is based on JR's theory or based what a person hears and reads (think of the average german in the thirties-what they heard and read) then really there is no basis for physical race. It's a thought- and idea- but not actual. I propose when people stop continuing this 1950's way of race then we all become the same race. Will issues cease? Yes and no. Will thinking this way- that there are no separate races- improve human society? Absolutely. Does 1950's thinking about race ideas continue to drag society as a whole down? Absolutely.

I can glean from some of the statements on this thread that quite a few of you think that if you are anything mixed with white, then you can't be "white" That in itself is at best a race centric point of view, which infers intonations of racial superiority. We are all homo sapiens. How we look and what "color" we are is derived from where on the globe our ancestors lived and interbred. No race but one, color is irrelevant.

You are the one that seems to be assuming that if a person has any Caucasian blood at all, he should be identifying himself as "white".

Just a thought here.

Wouldn’t it be great if everyone would just start reproducing with everyone else, regardless of what color they are?

That way, eventually everyone would just be sort of a gray color, we could drop this whole "race" issue and start hating people for who they are and not what they are.

Well that's been going on for quite some time now- and we are already all gray. I believe people that think in racial terms are backward and stuck, and as time passes the idea of race will die. Not sure I think I can start hating folks for who they are- not ready for that yet, lol.

I can't see you as a non bigot by referring to BHO as white- or black- or any color/race. If a person believes there is no race then well, to them there is no race. That's following your theory on race. If you take that same person and now declare this person is white, or that person is black and so on, then yes it is racist drivel. If there is no race no one is any race. Anyone who now then wants to place catagories over a person is compartmentalizing that same person. To me that is placing barriers around them. That's a bit more than drivel- it's wrong. BHO is not black to me, not white to me- he's BHO to me. I don't see this world with colored eyes, and folks that do are helping make society stay in the 1950 USA version of racial terms.

Of course there is that one girl with the black and white paint horse that we aren’t too sure about.
