Photos of the New Purchase: Snowbird - 78k original mile 1991 560SEL

This is my first low mileage cream puff and I can certainly get used to it. I have a few "granny marks" to take care of, need refinish the wheels, and possibly re-mast the antenna, but the overall appearance, low mileage, and staggering service history is what put me over the edge.

Things repaired include: (most within the last 2 years)
Timing Chain, Guides, and Rails
Completely rebuilt front suspension with shocks
Rear SLS accumulators replaced, along with the high pressure lines
New Radiator, clutch fan, thermostat, and all belts/hoses
AC compressor replaced and system serviced (replaced with R12)
Every fluid in the car replaced (Transmission, SLS, differential, power steering, etc)
Completely replaced ignition system including plugs, wires, rotor cap.
Fuel pump relay and EZL replaced
Power steering pump and PS hoses replaced
New Shifter bushings
New rotors and ceramic pads all around
New Flex discs
Less than 5k on fresh tires and an alignment

The PO purchased the car from the 80 something year old neighbor of the original owners, which he purchased shortly after the original's death. They were snowbirds from Michigan, making their way South to Naples for the winter until they eventually retired in the area.

Here are the photos. Looks good with the SL

Looks great with your SL.

Usually people ask how long I plan on keeping it, and I respond, until I sell it...

Who knows.

Just for the heck of it, let me know when you decide to sell her. White is my new favorite color, it would look good next to the Silverado.

If all my cash isn't tied up in a house maybe I can swing it.

That car would look AMAZING with some AMG's on it...and maybe a little warming over of some period correct AMG things.

I'm impressed with the condition of the wood trim, its nice and dark with little fading.

Wow, that is a spiffy 560! *drool

Is it faster than the SL?

Are you really down to only two cars??

A keeper.

That's a gem of an original car, and ALL the important work has been done.

You could buy it and simply enjoy it for the next 5-10 years and basically do nothing. Just about EVERYthing needed to be done on a TIME basis has been done.

Original right down to the factory floor mats. Looks like euro lights and the ugly US headlight wipers are gone.

A turn key driver, low mileage but everything up to date. Well bought, one to drive and just enjoy.

Even in a ho-hum color, like white, it's a '91, the very last model year of them, and if it's an unrusted, unmolested, original one like this, with no accident repair, you could pay about $12,000 -$13,000 for it, and STILL make the argument you got plenty of value for the price.

New, it would have cost $70,000 or so. The 560SEL was the flagship of the 1991 line, sold (or leased) to multimillionaires, plutocrats, captains of industry, footballers, rock stars, diplomats, people with boatloads of cash who wanted the best.

And they were built to a cost no object standard of German quality, safe, long lasting, durable, reliable and designed to achieve interstellar mileage, and parts are still easily available if you need them.

(Beautiful job of photography, too !!!!! )

No...

Recently purchased a Dodge Dakota as well after selling my Denali. 2002 Sport trimming, 4x4, leather, barely 100k on her, and about half the price as what my old Denali fetched.

Yeah, it looks quite stunning in white.

Though I am still a fan of black, a black W126 is just awesome looking.

When I saw you got that pristine AMG only to see you sold it, I realized the only car you'll keep is your SL.

I'm sure you will take care of this mint flag ship sedan as much as you did the rest of the cars that went through you, no doubt about that. Maybe even embark on another adventure to CA and back?

I think the SL would have the grunt off the line, then the 560 would eventually catch and pull away.

I hated white until I got white, now I don't want a vehical thats not white!

Black looks great when its clean which is about 10 minutes. White looks great when you don't wash it for a month.

Black is the best color, but I'll never own another black car. You can't fart next to one without it getting dirty.
