Automotive paint is pretty cheap, don't bother with any other type of paint if you're doing the job yourself. You're just stacking the odds up against you.

Even better still, find a Local Maaco and they should do it for a few hundred dollars. Maaco is a franchise so some are better then others. It just depends on who runs it and what kind of work they are prepared to let out of the door. The one here in Dallas does pretty decent work.

Furthermore, white is a very forgiving color and will hide dings and other imperfections.

That 2,000 will look cheap.

I only know two things that might help.

One. The primer issue must be addressed. GM had a recall on this once, but it has expired. There is bound to be some info on dealing with this water-based primer somewhere on the net. (I understand that they went to this because it was cheaper to buy and cheaper to apply since this primer requires less pollution equipment to apply. This would have been a great thing if it had worked long term.)

Two. A quality paint job is not so dependent on the pressure of the air compressor that is fueling the spray gun as it is on the flow of air, the Cubic Feet per Minute, or the CFM. The more CFM the better.

I am only going by what I have been told over the years, so if anyone wants to add, deleate or correct anything I said here then please feel free to do so.

And I would use a fish eye eliminator, there has to be oil spots somewhere. If it get real
bad, wet your finger and work paint in to fish eye. let dry ,paint again. The best way for you is to rent, and airless sprayer[like one they paint house with. It holds lot's of paint,so you could mix all together, and if you have enought paint. On last coat 50/50 use more thiner, the heat [from the thiner will bond good and give you a good shine.
And you have to be able to keep same pressure, if not your patern will not stay the same, other words runs every where.
