PARIS HILTON SMOKES A DOOB!! ... oh, and something about soccer?

Africa mourns Ghana W.Cup loss amid Hilton drama
By Nick Reeves (AFP) – 8 hours ago
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Africa mourned Ghana's World Cup loss on Saturday, as socialite Paris Hilton's marijuana arrest gave a celebrity drama twist to the quarter-finals.
Hilton's court drama competed for press attention after Ghana's Black Stars ended Africa's World Cup dreams by crashing out in a thrilling penalty shoot-out with Uruguay.
The American party girl meanwhile was arrested for alleged possession of marijuana at a World Cup match Friday in Port Elizabeth but a judge tossed out the charges against her after her friend, former Playboy Playmate Jennifer Rovero, pleaded guilty.
The pair were arrested at the Brazil-Netherlands quarter-final in Port Elizabeth, after police smelt marijuana. Police approached when a joint was thrown to the ground and the women apparently were ushered inside by bodyguards.
"Police seized the evidence and approached the women inside the stadium. The women were taken into custody after a bodyguard handed a second cannabis cigarette over to the police," said police spokeswoman Sally De Beer.
"Charges were withdrawn against Miss Paris Hilton as her co-accused acknowledged being in possession of the cannabis and pleaded guilty."
Her arrest knocked Ghana off the front page of Afrikaans daily Die Burger and fuelled media reports other Saturday newspapers. In a Twitter post, she played down the incident and said she still loved South Africa.

what are the prerequisites to be a reporting member of the press?

seriously, I don't know if they're desperate, or just looking for a quick sell.... but dear god... why?

The only excuse I might come up with is that perhaps the author feels the same as we do.... Perhaps he is so disgusted by the fact that Mz hilton bumped an important story off the front page for her reeeediculous nonsense.

... and the reason it happened is because people are really suckers for it.

How much did she "donate" to some one to get off the charge?
They should have done a simple saliva test, but you never know what it may have shown.

That sorta thing starts to get pretty old when you get to be about 25, at least for most people.

Well, then, how do you feel about western imperialism, standardization of cultural values, cultural diversity, the homogenization of pop ideology, idolatry, American ignorance, American disrespect for international undertakings, America's foreign policy, Apartheid, ... and a bunch of other stuff you probably don't want to be bothered with?

You missed the entire story.

Or do you refuse to break character from the narrow, grumpy bridge dweller you play on the internet and stand by your conviction that these are not things of importance?

Agreed. In my case, you can add American Idol to that list - only watched part of one show when visiting my friends in Kyle - total waste of time and cable bandwidth.

As far as the 3rd, never been tempted to try it - ever. Didn't even have my first beer until several months after I was in the Navy at 19. Wasn't that I was raised as a choirboy - just that among my relatives and people I knew, there were plenty of examples of how you could really screw up your life by doing alcohol and stronger items to excess.

I'm happy to say that I've never actually seem American Idol; IMO, commercial TV is a complete wasteland.

I would recommend that everyone avoid drugs/alcohol. In reality, young folks are probably going to give it a try but there is really no upside to using these subtances. Some folks are going to have problems, it's not worth the risk.
