WHICH IS A BETTER MATTRESS?

Need to purchase a new bed. Well, I want to. So the question is, I have had back surgery two years ago, which is a better and more comfortable mattress.

King Koil or Serta?

Please weigh in with your comments and experience.

Thanks

Not one of you options but we have had a sleep number for over 6 years now and we love it. I can adjust it depending on how I feel and my wife can have hers anyway she wants hers.

Just an idea.

i just got a sleep number too.i had back surgery about 20 yrs ago and after that i could not sleep on my stomach whatsoever.got this sleep number and i've slept on my stomach a few times and it hasn't bothered me yet.and i like the fact that if it does feel a little firm or soft i can adjust accordingly.one thing about it though is you can't really sit on the bed as it will just sink to the box or foundation.

Tempurpedic

Again, not one of your options but we like ours very much. Very supportive; it touches you everywhere. No pressure points, can sleep with minimal position changes. Long life; we have had it for 10 years and it still feels like new.

Before we bought, we searched out a bed-and-breakfast that featured them and spent a night there. This is, I think, a good idea no matter what your candidates are.

bedding

There a a million different beds out there because everybody is different.

Go shopping, and lay on every matt for about 10 minutes to se how it feels.

Tempur pedic matts are very sensitive to temp changes.

I would lean towards a name brand matt only because of the warranty.

And by all means, negotiate with the mattress sales person!!! Buying a mattress is like buying a used car, you will be surprised how much "room" they have on the asking price.

The pressure is controlled by the pump. As long as the pump/hose remain attached to the bed, no pressure will be lost during a power outage. The only time the pump is active is when you adjust the air pressure.

That may have been the case with the 1st gen tempur material matresses long ago and may be dependent on each persons sensitivity.

Same here. I have two of them one firmer in my room and a regular one in the guest room. They are both very nice to sleep on...
I have a friend who swears by her Sleep Number bed and I am thinking of getting one of those in the future.

We got a memory foam bed from Overstock.com. Had it for several years and no complaints. Shipping was something like $2 for a king mattress and box!

Recently bought a Sealy for the GF from Sleepys.

The mattress is extremely comfortable, but, like most of them, the construction is a POS. Light wooden frame with poor fabric........no weight to it at all.

But, the most interesting fact about this deal was the margins. This bed is advertised at $1000. in the store with the box spring. A five minute conversation regarding a very similar mattress at Costco for $480. reduced the price to $480. without any telephone calls to "management".

Further discussions during the purchase revealed that they guarantee your comfort on the mattress or they take it back and refund all money with the exception of a $250. handling fee. They cannot resell it and must toss it out at this point. Queried about the fact that the actual cost to Sleepys couldn't be more than $250. for this mattress got an affirmative answer and an agreement on their unbelievable margins.

I'm in the wrong business...............

Most consumer goods have that sort of mark up. Some one has to pay for the cost of the shop rent and advertising. Think about the tires on your car Brian, the probably cost about $10 to manufacture, or replacement wheel bearings ~ less than $1.
The sleep number bed is probably more expensive because of the electronic components but then the processor in your computer probably cost a few cents to make.

Last bed we bought cost as much (if not more) than some MBs I've bought.
It's just crazy markup.

Wife just had to have one of those expensive memory foam beds and we ended up with a comfortpedic. ( I think thats what its called)

I hate it. My back feels like its about to bust into flames about halfway thru the night. Also, it forms to your body which feels like I'm kinda stuck. Hard to expain...
I spend a lot of nights on the sofa or guest bed just to get away from... er... it.
