Who is going to watch the meteor shower tonight?

Just wondered if anybody else was going to watch the meteor shower tonight.

Years ago in Seattle, a buddy and I went about 30 miles west of town to get a little more darkness and watched one of the meteor showers. Pretty cool. One blew our minds. As God is my witness, we saw one firey ball come into one side of the horizon and disappear out the other end, tumbling as it went. We were both like, "did you see that?"

I'll look for it tonight. Light pollution round here, not sure what the moon is doing now. When is its peak supposed to be?

Depends on the potency, but if you're doing brownies, you better eat them now, man.

Well, if you're sharing the "brownies" ;-). I think it was between 12 and 3 am. I'm actually heading out between Wendovee and SLC to see it.

Normally takes 45 minutes depending on how much food you have in your stomach.

I'd be much more afraid of the fairies that run around outside.

I've seen a couple of meteor showers in my time. Orionids being the most interesting if I remember, that was when I lived back in SA. I saw the Leonids in 2001 or 2002 from Lost Dutchman state park in Apache Junction. They were certainly worth seeing on both occasions but I always smile at the term "shower". More like "drip" perhaps?

Actually I just realized it's not tonight. It's Thursday night/Friday morning.

Do you know what colors they are?

I've heard blue and red.

The trees help in your escape though.

My friend called form Texas last night around 8pm here in CA. I told her to go outside and look at the meteor shower. She was telling me all about the meteors while it was still daylight for me

I didn't get to see them thanks to the light pollution from Sacramento.

Reviving Thread

Okay, it's 3:12am and I'm dying to figure out where to take my 9 year old daughter. Most public parks are closed......We have one BIG ass public park called Shelby Farms (use google) not too far from my house. I'm thinking of driving over there......

Wonder if the light pollution will be too great there.

Tonight is suppose to be the peak for the Orionid Meteor shower for 2012 considering the moon phase, and weather forecast weather in my area.

EDIT: I woke up daughter about 3:45. We went to a new church parking lot on the edge of town with no lights in the parking lot. We saw 3 meteors together in about 45 minutes. Way cool making that memory with her !!

I went out to the nearest relatively open field at ~3:00 this morning. It's nothing like pitch black, but it's the best view available to me within convenient walking distance.

I saw a dozen or so "shooting stars" during about an hour of watching.
