Sat outside (drinking) Thursday evening from sundown to around 11:00pm CST and only saw a few. Woke up around 4:00am CST Friday, made a pot of coffee and sat facing north until it was too bright and probably saw, on average, 1 every 2-3 minutes. They weren't particularly spectacular bolides either...pretty dim; I doubt if they'd been visible if there was much ambient light (I'm 35-40mi from Bryan/College Station and 9-10 from Cameron, a town of 5000.

My friend called form Texas last night around 8pm here in CA. I told her to go outside and look at the meteor shower. She was telling me all about the meteors while it was still daylight for me

I didn't get to see them thanks to the light pollution from Sacramento.

Reviving Thread

Okay, it's 3:12am and I'm dying to figure out where to take my 9 year old daughter. Most public parks are closed......We have one BIG ass public park called Shelby Farms (use google) not too far from my house. I'm thinking of driving over there......

Wonder if the light pollution will be too great there.

Tonight is suppose to be the peak for the Orionid Meteor shower for 2012 considering the moon phase, and weather forecast weather in my area.

EDIT: I woke up daughter about 3:45. We went to a new church parking lot on the edge of town with no lights in the parking lot. We saw 3 meteors together in about 45 minutes. Way cool making that memory with her !!

I went out to the nearest relatively open field at ~3:00 this morning. It's nothing like pitch black, but it's the best view available to me within convenient walking distance.

I saw a dozen or so "shooting stars" during about an hour of watching.
