Brass and ???
I have brass anchors around the pool deck and some of the brass screws that hold the cover on are missing. The cover manufacture want's $4.25 a piece for brass replacement screws. Is there a metal that I can use with the brass anchors that will not corrode? I'll get the brass ones if I have too but it seems like a rip off if there is a replacement that can be had for less and do the same job.
Thanks

Have you tried Ebay? If those anchors are what I think they are, they aren't just standard bolts are they?

They are these things,
loop loc anchor. Thing is they all come with the sleeve which I don't need. Also, I need 15 of these things. Most are missing but some are broken. Makes me wonder how sturdy they are to begin with. I was hoping if I could find some stainless steel bolts that would thread right that they would be stronger. I'm just not sure about corrosion between brass and what ever metal I get the bolts in. The OEM do screw down flush when not in use which is nice but if they become brittle and break very easy why bother? I can just unscrew then when not in use and store them with the cover. Most of the Ebay ones are the same price as from the manufacture.

I have them all around my pool. Stick with the OE. They are designed to withstand a LOT of tension, including the weight of snow and ice. You also don't want them to snap loose while installing the cover - someone could get seriously hurt.

But that's the thing. Some of them already have snapped. They do not seem that sturdy.

Yep, that's what I was thinking about. The problem with leaving them out in the summer is that crap will get down inside the anchor and it will be hard to screw in the bolt in the fall. You definitely want something that will go flush with the surface of the concrete in the summer. Any foreclosed homes with pools in your neighborhood?

They sure look special to me. You might be able to have a standard stainless steel cap screw of the correct thread cut down. Stainless steel will work fine in brass.
If debris gets into the anchor, blow it out with compressed air. |

Lowes and Home Depot usually have a good selection of both brass and stainless fasteners.

If you use stainless, you will corrode the brass fitting. You need the same material for both to avoid a galvanic cell.

A few are broken, most of the 15 are missing.

We had them at the swim club. I was on the board and they were one of my jobs. They just get grit in them and become hard to turn. Best to pull them out once a season and clean out the female part (think plumbers brush for inside of 1/2 inch fittings and a shop vac). Then be sure the allen hole in the male part is also clean so the wrench can seat all the way. As to losing them, well, buy new ones and be more careful next time. Also be sure you buy the right ones as there are several types and they are not all interchangeable. When we remodeled in 2000, we installed a new pool that did not reuire we keep water in it and solved the problem. Wish I had saved the male part of the anchors, I could have made a fortune selling them to folks.

I think he just bought the place so I doubt the loss is his fault.
It might be worth looking around the edge of the pool deck since I doubt the originals went too far.

We just bought the house in Sep. The screws were already missing/broken when I bought it.
There is vegetation surrounding the pool so finding oxidized screws is quite challenging to say the least. We are looking for them when ever we clean out an area. I have enough good ones right now to hold the cover the cover in place. I guess I'll bight the bullet and order them from the manufacture.
