You don't really want me to explain Newton's methods on com. poly.nom. do you? I can recall the concept somewhat. In the days before computers, it would have been incredibly labor intensive to pull off. Ditto with linear algebra.

The shadow (as projected on the ground) is not the hypotenuse. The hyp would be the imaginary line between the tip of the pole and the corresponding part of the shadow.

Tango- the Hyp would be from the tip of the shadow (on the ground) to the tip of the pole (up in the air) the shadow it self( on the ground) would be the Adjacent side.
Am I correct?
