California DMV - anyone know how long it takes to process registration renewals?
A while back I called DMV to see what's up with my registration renewal becasue I hadn't received mine yet.
The person at the other end said one wasn't generated because I had purchased/transferred title near the renewal date--about 2 months before renewal. He advised me to send in a check and write down plate number yada yada. That was a month ago. So today I called and apparently they have no record of ever receiving payment. I have about 9 days before my registration expires. I will have to go the a DMV office and get that taken care of, then go to my bank to see if I can get a refund for the personal money order I sent. I would have used a check but I ran out of checks and couldn't wait for new ones to arrive. Just how long does it take for the DMV to send out new sticker and registration once they receive payment? I'm a bit irritated now. I can't wait for them to process my renewal and will have to make another payment at the office and hope I can cancel the money order and get a refund from my bank. This is just inwanted stress and anxiety. |

2 weeks
I just did both mine and my wifes and it was about 2 weeks from when I dropped the checks in the mail to when I got the new stickers. My wife's came a couple of days after mine.
As soon as the check clears they consider you legal, if just in their computer that every cop has. The sticker is just to keep you from getting pulled over if they're looking. Once they check you'll be ok.

You dont honestly think that the public service (like the DMV) are there to serve the public?
Arnie has to get the $$ to pay the bills some how. I bet your payment has been cashed long ago.

Here in Il the most F'd state in the country.
7 to 10 days on-line, that prints a receipt you can use if you don't get it in time.

If you belong to AAA you can take care of it all at their office. Much better than the A holes whose bloated salary you pay for and treat you like crap at the DMV. Everything at AAA is in English too, which is a refreshing change from the multi cultural DMV experience.
