Isn't that what all W140 glass looks like?

There are a lot of "guard" W140s for sale around here. The 'urban' jackasses that buy them see the thick glass and see one diplomat movie with W140s in it and assume their $4,995 300SE is armored.

Pretty much.

A few months ago I saw a SWB W140, with rims, covered in V12 badges...applied incorrectly.

" The armor is rated to stop penetration from small callaber weapons even in regards to a close range shot.

Our Opinion

But do to the nature of the vehicle and geograpic neccesity of a armored car we are sold to sell it for almost half off! Open ing the doors of the benz you can feel the added weight of the armor plating, all of the windows are bulletproof constructed measuring a thumbs width. This is great for more than the obvious use of being bulletproof but the added advantage stopping significant damage from potential common accidents."

WHAT " GEOGRAPHIC NECESSITY " we talking about here?

They pretty much bury the hatchet in their own ad right there. (0-60 in 7.6 is what a stock W140 S500 will do....a real armored version would be considerably slower)

About 20 years ago a friend of mine in South Africa asked me to look into buying a car to protect him. In short, what I found after to speaking to a few companies that do this was...

You cannot protect against everything unless you want a giant car. The car the US President has now did not exist then, but that's what they were talking about. Is your threat land mines or .223? It was considered impractical to armor against both.

Cars were not really used anymore; vans were the current fave since you could armor a one-ton van and it would still look, and somewhat ride, like a normal one. Most of the customers then (remember, this was 20 years ago) were in Russia and there was a back log of about seven months.

The glass was 60 mm thick. You could get thicker glass but it became optically distorted the thicker you went. This could make you sea sick from driving the car while looking through the wavy glass, so 60 mm was the maximum suggested thickness.

0 to 60 times were not considered since it would be like driving a 240 D. You were expected to have a car in front and one in back as decoys to make up for a lack of speed. Top speed was about 90 mph on a good road and you were expected to run flat out at all times to make your car harder to hit.

So... The next time you are in the market for an armored car keep these tips in mind!

Nah, that car is BS.

Saw it a while ago, and laughed.

Shouldn't it have the secondary trunk lock.... As well as different wheels, and a single piece of glass like pooka said...?

Yep. The sunroof caught my attention as well. I couldn't understand why an armored car would have one.

What about the Pope Mobile, that G-Wagen?

Is that armored or does God protect him?

For starters, this model year, I THINK was a S600 Guarde. The extra power was needed to carry the passengers to safety in a very heavy car. I've never heard of a S500 Guarde. I agree, this sounds a lot like BS.

Wow that dealership is so stupid it hurts me to read their add, epic fail.

Guard MB's are easy to spot with the doors open, look at the jams. Armored cars always have strange looking doors since the windows are 2in thick.

Real deal.
