^^^ Unfortunately, you're probably right. People like confrontational airheaded bull***** like the Roman Plebeians liked the circus. More Christians! More Lions!

A down the middle network made a left wing hate monger kook necessary? I guess in liberal-speak anyone moderate is considered right wing biased. Keith was leading MSNBC down the tubes, his ratings were dropping faster than other MSNBC shows. Its one thing to present a left wing opinion, but fabricating facts to try and make his story fly was pathetic.

Oh well, from the noise, some order now and then. FOX made Olbermann necessary.

His audience was only 1 million, poor thing. Oh Lawdie, please don't saddle me with the kind of money that an audience of that size brings.

^^^ It's the whole, "where one believes oneself to be" thingie. In contrast to all of you wacked-out people, I am in fact perfectly settled exactly in the middle of everything. Therefore, my opinion of leftie and rightie is perfect and the rest of are scattered across the fruited plain.

SwampYankee 01-22-2011 12:36 PM

I haven't watched him since his Sports Center days. He and Dan Patrick were hysterical together.

elchivito 01-22-2011 12:41 PM

Down the middle, moderate network?:D

A good laugh is always welcome, thanks!!

Craig 01-22-2011 12:43 PM

Guys, who really cares? No-one with more that 8 functioning brain cells watches any of this crap anyway. You might as well argue about Gilligan's Island or Jerry Springer reruns.

Txjake 01-22-2011 01:00 PM

good riddance to another media buffoon. we would be better as a country if they all quit...

I actually (as a conservative) didn't mind him being on the air at all. He helped prove my point with most of his ridiculous rants. I agree, he'll resurface somewhere. But I doubt it'll be with any more influence.

I am confident that Chris Mathews is also happy he's gone. Now his bullhorn just got a bit louder, not having to compete with Keith's. He hated the guy anyhow.

LaRondo 01-22-2011 01:13 PM

Good thing I don't patronize that kind of flickering square screen.

Who cares if some talking head leaves a job?

Olbermann was a bit much in some regards but the climate of the times back around, I forget, '03, sorta created him. His staff came up with some amazing tidbits.

He would often go over the top with histrionics but his reporting was often spot on. I guess 'punditry' would be a better word than 'reporting.'

Wait, aren't you a Limbaugh fan? The king of obnoxiousness?

Dude runs circles around Limbaugh and Hannetizer boy.

Meanwhile, back in the real world.....

Obie currently has three strong rumors floating about. All of which would make him far more than he could ever make at MSNBC. Remember.. This is Television being discussed here so only two things matter. Those two things are money and more money.

The strongest rumor is that he is going to Fox. This would boost their ratings and allow them to be balanced since they gave up on fair long ago. The head of Fox News recently told everyone to tone it down or look for a new job since ratings for some of the shows have been falling. Fox would get a ratings boost if they could afford Obie who is said to have walked away with about $20 mill in his pocket. There are also rumors that Fox is taking to him about his own show.

Next rumor: He is he is going to England to do a 'Letter From America' show. This would be steady work until he dropped dead since he would have others writing his stuff and all he would have to do is announce it and be entertaining while doing it.

The third is that he is under strong consideration to be Commish of Baseball. I don't know what this pays, but for a former sports announcer this would be a dream job even he had to pay them.

He was pulling in 5 million viewers a week. If MSNBC wants his old slot for something else they must have something big planned.

Myself... I think he just decided to retire, but that would not explain why MSNBC bought out his contract.

Stay tuned!

I didn't watch religiously, but always recorded his friday programs as he ended them by reading a selection of Thurber. He was an outspoken proponent of Net Neutrality and had opined on it quite few times. Comcast is a big proponent of tiered internet service, and they just bought MSNBC. I'll bet his ouster was a condition of the sale, as they could see problems coming having him on board. He was the first to admit that his other career changes were largely over disagreements with management. Conservative glee over this silencing of a progressive voice will be short lived. He'll be back, and I bet with an even more influential platform.

Anderson Cooper looked like he was stifling a smile while he was reporting the story, maybe because CNN has reportedly courted KO in the past. Could be Cooper sees his home base gaining an audience bringer which would raise his stock somewhat.

My guess is that Comcast will come to regret their ouster of KO as they might switch positions with CNN in the ratings dept.
