Ah, a report from la-la land. Please share with us info on KO's ratings. This has been the tireless refrain for some years now. Funny thing, FOX is losing viewers by some accounts. And tell us about the fabricated stories. No doubt you have solid info on that or you wouldn't float it out there.

FOX is about as far right as a TV network has ever been in our land and that's saying something. Anybody who can't see that has blinders super-glued in place.

I am confident that Chris Mathews is also happy he's gone. Now his bullhorn just got a bit louder, not having to compete with Keith's. He hated the guy anyhow.

Another voice of calm, reliable reason weighs in.

Matthews is his own sort of a-hole.

KO's rants did go over the top at times. However, most of this was during the realm of possibly the most clueless, untalented geeb who was ever referred to as leader in our once great land.

Obie's ratings? He pulled in an average of 5 million viewers a week. O'Rilly pulls in about 15 million a week. What would they pull in together if Obie were a commentator on Billo's show?

The majority of viewers of both of them were/is in the 25 to 54 age group which everyone wants. However, Obie's ratings started slipping (by 25%) after the election which is, in his line of work, normal. Bill is more wide ranging and is not just a political talk fest so his numbers have stayed steady.

Viewer numbers like this are not enough to get a cable show canceled because of the demos he was pulling in. The demographics are more important in television than overall ratings because that is what sells advertising.

Palin's show pulled in 2.5 million viewers a week but she could never get the 25-54 auds to watch. Her show was not renewed since her format was never going to work for advertisers, and if your product does not work for them it is bye-bye TV land.

Palin's show might have had more people who vote watching it that any other, but if you ask an advertiser if that is important to them they will likely die laughing. Money talks and it said good bye to her.

You think politics is tough? Try show biz.

So these old media clowns still get between 5-15 million viewers per week, while cnn.com (for example) gets about 850 million page views per week.

Why do we care about these geezers?

Pooka 01-22-2011 04:21 PM

Craig makes a good point.

Details are beginning to leak out. It appears that Obie received $14 mill to pack it up and NBC execs have been bragging that he will be off the air for several years.

Since his ratings and demos were still good it is no reason everyone is wondering why he was bought out. Somebody wanted him off the air real bad; about $14 mill worth of bad.

I am sort of amazed that everyone seems so shocked over this. It has been in the show-biz trades for weeks. Everyone knew they were talking and it was not a matter of if but when.

Botnst 01-22-2011 05:28 PM

That's show biz.

Bush and his administration are responsible in varying degrees of contribution for much of the countries problems. If this were not the case, one would have expected to see Dubya campaigning for Republican candidates. The blame has nothing to do with what works or the remedy.
