Keith Olbermann out for good
Reportedly this is independent of the newer, more conservative owners, but who knows.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704754304576096772622398558.html Cable host Keith Olbermann and news channel MSNBC abruptly parted ways on Friday night, as the network announced it had agreed to end his contract and the last installment of his show would air that evening. The surprise announcement strips MSNBC of its most-watched evening anchor after an increasingly tempestuous relationship, coming less than three months after the network briefly suspended the fiery host. "MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors," the network said in an emailed statement just before the end of Mr. Olbermann's Friday program. MSNBC and Mr. Olbermann have been discussing parting ways for some time, according to a person familiar with the matter. That person said they ultimately came to a financial agreement to end his contract two years early. The host signed a four-year deal worth $30 million in 2008. Neither side offered an explanation for their split. On the air, Mr. Olbermann said it would be his last show, and thanked viewers.

A great loss to loudmouth pseudo-journalism.
He'd be great on NPR. Livin' things up. Bet he could broadcast with the same gravitas in his briefs. |

What's this? Something less than universal sadness?
I fully agree that the guy can get obnoxious. But he got plenty of good base hits over the years. We haven't heard the last of the guy. He got about double the viewers for his time slot than did CNN, who just lost Larry King.

oh yeah, he'll always do well with the people who like self-inflating airheaded news doofuses.

Oh well, from the noise, some order now and then. FOX made Olbermann necessary.
His audience was only 1 million, poor thing. Oh Lawdie, please don't saddle me with the kind of money that an audience of that size brings.

Wasn't his strong suit doing sports?
Did the NBC family drop him from that stuff too?

I'm not surprised at some of the Bronx cheers. People devoted to their ideology don't like effective challenges. The rest of the MSNBC lineup isn't as talented as he. O'Donnell isn't going to fill his shoes and neither will Ed Schultz who can be a bit much.

Funny, I first read the title as if he is out to do good.
I'm kindof left but he got on my nerves too. I could only watch a few minutes of him once a month or so.

KO, and his obnoxious, condescending, always hysterical, crescendo rants will surface somewhere. He is too good at that niche to suffer in obscurity.

In fairness, Olbermann ain't the only gasbag I'd like to see pinned. Kudos to MSNBC to be first.

I liked Olbermann quite a bit, and will especially miss his special comments he did from time to time. I didn't watch religiously, but always recorded his friday programs as he ended them by reading a selection of Thurber. He was an outspoken proponent of Net Neutrality and had opined on it quite few times. Comcast is a big proponent of tiered internet service, and they just bought MSNBC. I'll bet his ouster was a condition of the sale, as they could see problems coming having him on board. He was the first to admit that his other career changes were largely over disagreements with management. Conservative glee over this silencing of a progressive voice will be short lived. He'll be back, and I bet with an even more influential platform.
